We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

Electric Transmission System Operations Center is looking for a Consulting Engineer to drive the Reliability Engineering and Operational Outage Planning team. Dominion's high voltage electric grid is expanded and maintained through a complex series of system outages which must be planned, scheduled, modeled and studied to ensure the grid will maintain its high levels of reliability. Incumbent will participate in an advanced-degree engineering team which will enhance the processes used to provide system analysis of the electric transmission network grid through automated modeling and simulations.

 

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Provides multi-discipline engineering teams with strong technical and project leadership within a discipline, engineering section, or for major engineering projects.
  • Possesses and applies advanced knowledge and technical skills to solve complex engineering problems, or to plan and coordinate larger scale engineering projects or varied assignments requiring diverse knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Provides expert technical consultation and assessment on engineering problems and projects to engineering personnel.
  • Serves as a management consultant on complex engineering problems and issues.
  • Controls technical, financial and service commitments to internal or external customers.
  • May perform independent research to find innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions to operational problems.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience; an Engineering PhD can be substituted for up to 5 years' experience based on research engineering work on directly related projects as approved by leadership
  • In-depth knowledge of engineering theories, principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments and related field
  • Strong electrical modeling and analysis skills required; Utility Transmission System is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience with automation including coding in Python and database SQL skills
  • Knowledge of business/financial and contractual matters
  • Recognized expert by other engineers and management
  • Demonstrated expert technical consultation to other engineers and management
  • Strong planning and project management skills
  • Strong technical and organizational leadership skills
  • Strong oral, written, and active presentation communication skills (includes technical writing)
  • In depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.)
  • Proven decision-making skills
  • Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems
  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices
  • Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks
  • Equally effective working independently or in team environment

 

Education Requirements

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA:

For placement of a candidate in a Consulting Engineer title, the following criteria must be met:

  • Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
  • Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
  • Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
  • Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
