We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

Dominion Energy is looking to add either a Construction Contracts Specialist or a Sr. Construction Contracts Specialist to our Project Controls team. There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities. This position requires a hybrid work schedule and is not authorized for 100% remote work. 

 

Incumbents will be responsible for ensuring the effective development and management of engineering and construction related procurement contracts in a cost-effective and timely manner for the emerging generation construction projects with a focus on solar projects. The successful candidate will work with supply chain and legal departments to develop appropriate strategies for execution of complex services agreements for the Project Construction Organization.

 

Serves as a cross functional team leader. Participates on the negotiation team that negotiates Engineering Procurement Contract (EPC) agreements with large construction suppliers. Administers large scale EPC Agreements, including resolution of billing issues, negotiation and coordination of securities, and interpretation of contract language to ensure compliance with terms and conditions of executed contracts. Keeps in close day to day contact with personnel at construction sites to be aware of contract performances and deviations. Reviews amendments and change orders to accommodate unanticipated situations and ensure compliance with relevant contracts. Provide guidance to others in streamlining work instructions, policies and procedures for the group.


Coordinates resolution of contractual and technical disagreements between the company and contractors. Assists in audit strategies when billing and contract disputes arise. Prepares reports for management and department.
Monitors contract performance and identifies deviations. Develops and recommends strategies for ascertaining performance criteria with contracts. Monitors progress and schedule milestones in contract to ensure provisions are met that lead to payment. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

 

This role manages complex generation agreements for materials/equipment/services. Supports activities related to identification, solicitation, evaluation, and award of bids to suppliers. Supports identification and implementation of cost improvements for purchased materials and services. Communicates with field and project personnel to evaluate compliance with contracts. Compiles reports for management that monitors contract status, reports analysis, and overall contract performance. Assists in maintaining contract databases and compiling information for project planning and forecasting.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Construction Contracts Specialist: 3+ years related work experience dealing with contracts, large construction projects, and high impact negotiations.
  • Senior Construction Contracts Specialist: 5+ years related work experience dealing with contracts, large construction projects, and high impact negotiations.
  • Prior work experience with utility/energy contracts, solar construction, or EPC Contracts would be a plus.
  • Verbal/writing/presentation skills.
  • Candidates with SAP software experience is highly preferred.
  • Technical and practical knowledge of renewable energy technology preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and project management skills.
  • Ability to organize, negotiate, and complete complex EPC contracts with minimal supervision.
  • Negotiation and resolution of contractual issues.
  • Keen commercial and contractual acumen.
  • Ability to prepare and negotiate Non-Disclosure Agreements, contract amendments and other contract documents with minimal supervision.
  • Change Order management including ability to settle disputes.
  • Anticipation of contractual and commercial risks and implement control measures.
  • Coordinate all internal legal, insurance, tax, and other internal groups for successful contract execution.
  • Work within Contracts and Project Teams as lead on contracting strategies and project business cases and financial impacts.
  • Comfortable managing cross-functional and commercial matters independently.
  • Provide contract support to multiple projects and manage competing priorities.
  • Respond to regulatory related interrogatories, anticipate, understand, and respond to customer needs.

 

The successful candidate must be willing to travel, work in both home and field office settings, and be temporarily assigned to different project sites; office environment and/or construction project site. Work schedule may depend on project needs during project execution.

 

Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications.
