Business Systems Analyst

Job Summary

Dominion Energy’s IT Generation team is seeking a Business Systems Analyst (BSA) with strong analytical skills and attention to detail to provide support for our Power Generation Group, including Power Generation Operations and Technical Services, Energy Supply, Fuels, and Generation Construction. The successful candidate will be assigned to new system implementation projects, system upgrades, and maintenance support of existing systems. The ideal candidate will possess a working knowledge of the BSA skillset and toolset as well as knowledge of modern computing technologies. The ability to effectively communicate (written, verbal, presentation) with internal business partners, IT personnel, and external service provides is critical to success in this role.


Duties include, but are not limited to:


  • Act as a consultant to our internal business partners regarding technology and process solutions.
  • Provide guidance to our internal business partners by knowing what systems they have in place and determining what those systems may be capable of going forward.
  • Interface with internal business partners, IT groups, and external service providers to implement new systems, modify existing systems, and provide system maintenance support.
  • Facilitate requirements workshops for new implementation project and well as system enhancements.
  • Functionally deconstruct, analyze, and document our internal business partners’ problems, processes, and needs.
  • Define business requirements and test cases using structured methodologies.
  • Gather and document business requirements, test cases, use cases, and design thinking exercises.
  • Facilitate finding and developing viable technology solutions for our business partners by working with teammates and various IT groups within the company.
  • Manage multiple assignments and work priorities simultaneously.
  • Provide written and verbal updates on projects and solutions to IT and business management.
  • Develop and deliver training on new or revised system functionality to raise awareness and educate users and support personnel.
  • Provide application and system support for multiple systems used by our internal business partners.
  • Provide support for projects and troubleshooting efforts as assigned.
  • Provide rotational, on-call support for our Energy Supply business area.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The ideal candidate will have:



  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Information Technology, a business/technology consulting firm, or a utility business group (or)
  • 5 years of experience in Information Technology, a business/technology consulting firm, or a utility business group with an Associate degree (or)
  • 7 years of experience in Information Technology, a business/technology consulting firm, or a utility business group with a High School or equivalent degree


Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications



  • Understanding of the utility industry and/or power generation.
  • Previous BSA or SA work experience.
  • Solid documentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and understand customer issues and requirements.
  • Experience working with IT groups and service providers to apply technology solutions to businesses.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid organization skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in a support capacity on short-term and long-term projects.
  • Ability to successfully coordinate activities and solutions with team members and teams from multiple areas of the company.
  • Experience and ability to support process documentation efforts.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills for issues of varying complexity.
  • Provide detailed issue resolution documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze business processes for both ‘as is’ and ‘to be’ states.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for strengthening business processes and systems proactively.
  • Capability and willingness to learn rapidly, ask questions, and retain the information provided during the process.
Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:
Required Degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree):
Preferred: Business, Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Technology, Computer Engineering
Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.
Other: Information Systems, Math or Business or technical equivalent is desired.
