Business Development Manager

Job Summary

The Business Development Manager position located at the 600 Canal Place location in Richmond, VA will be responsible for assisting in leading and managing development and acquisition of power generation projects utilizing renewable, fossil, and nuclear fuel resources, for development and negotiation of new energy options for commercial, industrial, and non-jurisdictional customers, and for evaluating new energy technologies for deployment.

Project development responsibilities include leading development activities such as site selection, financial evaluation, environmental and local permitting, fuel and water procurement, evaluation of electrical interconnection, and leading and managing Requests for Proposals for project development assets and customer energy procurements

Additional functions include: Leading and pursuing growth strategies and opportunities. Leading evaluation, analysis, due diligence activities, and negotiations for prospective generation asset acquisition and development opportunities. Engaging external and internal customers to expand product offerings and explore innovative technologies. 

 Key participant in negotiations of project contracts and agreements, pro forma financial modeling and analysis, preparation of regulatory filings, executive level communications, preparation of governance materials and public presentations. Leading internal teams from multiple disciplines and departments including construction, operations, legal, tax, accounting, environmental, risk management, fuels, treasury, public/investor relations and financial analysis.

Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience is required (financial analysis, project management, account management, contract negotiations, project development, or related)
  • Extensive knowledge of electric power production business and energy markets, generally acquired through related work experience
  • Superior financial analysis skills, including ability to review and make investment recommendations based on pro forma financial statement inputs and results
  • Demonstrated ability to research renewable energy procurement structures and formulate recommendations based on power generation market trends and customer requests
  • Experience in commercial contract negotiations, acquisition and divestiture activities, and development of large generation facilities is preferred
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities (oral/written/presentation/interpersonal) to drive results in a team environment under minimal direction with internal and external customers
  • Ability to analyze information and make strategic decisions
  • Strong organizational, risk analysis, and project planning/execution skills required.  Must be able to effectively prioritize multiple key project efforts
  • Demonstrate computer skills including all MS Office

Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications.

Education Requirements

Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelor. Other Education: Business, Engineering. A Master's degree in Business Administration preferred.
