We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below will be considered for this opportunity.

Job Summary

Workplace Development has one position that will be filled at either an associate, mid or senior level, based on the selected candidates experience. Working with Dominion Facilities Project Managers, develops virtual designs for pre-construction, renovation, office space size, and furniture layout. Seeks out and resolves issues through close interaction and collaboration with other project team members. Maintains a database of as builds for designs of all company facilities. In a team environment, develops and coordinates designs, collaborates with design professionals, co-create models, and performs quality assurance and quality control checks on drawings. Develops photorealistic renderings and walk-throughs from building models. Utilizes CAD systems and performs other tasks relating to planning and design.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Associate Planning & Design Specialist: 0-2 years' experience in facilities design or related field.

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to set and manage customer expectations. 
  • Ability to navigate multiple projects concurrently. 
  • Problem-solving - Process Management, prioritizing, trouble shooting. 
  • Budgeting – forecasting and record keeping.
  • Experience with Auto (CAD), Maximo, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project. 
  • Ability to manage scheduling of contractor teams, calendar management, and delegation. 
  • Knowledge and skills as Project Specialist for commercial furniture.

 

Planning & Design Specialist: 2-3+ years of building or design industry experience. 

  • Work experience with CAD required. 
  • Experience with Building Information Model (BIM) systems. 
  • Experience with MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) desired. 
  • Advanced expertise and demonstrated capability with CAD systems. 
  • Strong computer, technical, and communication skills. 
  • Strong personal management skills. 

 

Senior Planning & Design Specialist: 5+ years building or design industry experience, including CAD experience. 

  • In-depth knowledge of major manufacturers' office furniture specifications and applications. 
  • Advanced expertise and demonstrated capabilities with CAD systems.
  • Experience with Building Information Model (BIM) systems.
  • Experience with MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing).
  • Experience with, and knowledge of construction estimating, reading and understanding plans and specifications, construction means and methods, accounting, document administration, and industry practices. 
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, and company standards. 
  • Strong understanding of architectural, mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil drawings, and related specifications. 
  • LEED knowledge desired. 
  • Strong computer and technical skills. 
  • Strong personal management skills, dedication, and organizational skills. 
  • Effective communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with strategic and/or confidential information
  • Ability to develop rapport with internal and external customers. 
  • Ability to prioritize based on relevant factors. 
  • Experience with, and knowledge of construction estimating, reading and understanding plans and specifications, construction means and methods, accounting, document administration, and industry practices.

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

Bachelor

Preferred Discipline(s): Architecture, Construction Technology, Construction Engineering, Interior Architect Design, Interior Design
