Job Summary
This role is the entry or developmental level position in the Electric Transmission Substation Operations Technical Specialist series.
This position will perform basic and routine tasks under direct supervision or work leader oversight, which are designed to develop and enhance job knowledge. The incumbent will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide oversight for the oversight of Electrical Transmission’s Transformer Resiliency Projects, transformer maintenance activities, and warranty issue resolution. This position will also interface with Dominion’s reliability engineering team to help ensure project execution. Provide technical oversight to ensure Dominion’s safety practices and procedures are observed. Work with contractors and other business units to schedule and complete tasks related to transformer work. (Substation Operations Technical Specialist I employees will not be solely responsible for oversight or commissioning of any of the systems/devices independently; at this level, a Tech Spec II or III would accompany the Tech Spec I).
Performs assignments designed to develop work knowledge, skills and abilities specific to specialized equipment and processes. Learns to develop work scope required to identify critical steps necessary to ensure compliance with Dominion Energy and OEM installation and maintenance requirements. Develops knowledge of substation safety and security requirements to ensure compliance. Demonstrates ability to read and understand complex equipment instructions and drawings.
Position Responsibilities Include:
- Coordinate work activities with DE and contract personnel for project specific work tasks
- Attend and lead project meetings
- Assist project management team with project execution
- Review and approve contractor charges
- Provide daily updates and work logs
- Ensure DE’s transformer procedures and guidelines are followed
- Abide by DE’s driving policies
- Available for on site and remote field support
- Ability to apply critical thinking and problem resolution
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
- Provide technical expertise on transformer issues
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and education required for entry into this job include the following:
1-2 years related experience in addition to preferred degree or its equivalence in additional demonstrated directly related experience/education;
Ability to fully learn the operation, maintenance and technical design applications;
Demonstrates ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering and technology to solve broadly defined engineering and technical problems of the discipline;
Develops leadership skills;
Ability to develop oral, written and graphic communication skills, including technical writing and ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
Develops organizational and project management skills;
Demonstrates personal computer skills and knowledge and use of various software programs: general software such as Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint and Excel. There is also OEM specific software that will be required to commission and install most of the equipment.
