Job Summary

Dominion Energy Virginia's Electric Transmission (ET} Project Management Organization is seeking a highly motivated Engineering Technical Specialist to support development, quality assurance, and standards interface. The primary responsibility for this role includes providing technical support, direction and advice for the development and implementation of the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects, Option to Build projects, special projects and programs. Perform evaluations, analysis, and design support for construction improvements and processes within Projects group. The role requires an individual who can apply previous field and design experience to effectively interface with field and project organization for improvements.
 

  • Provide technical support to project team for development and application of process improvements.
  • Strong time management skills with ability to independently plan and organize work assignments.
  • Identify deviations of standard practices and develop/recommend improvements to existing processes to increase productivity.
  • Evaluate and recommend applications and methods considering all stakeholder input to improve safety, reliability, and efficiency. 
  • Assist project management teams for the development of the scope of work and design requirements for substation projects.
  • Assist partners by answering questions related to design packages and providing guidance on design and/or construction plans.
  • Provide development schedules and documentation to track and ensure teams are meeting milestones to support the organization
  • Participate in various company teams and industry organizations to enhance ET's project execution performance
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

Engineering Technical Specialist I: 0-2 years of relevant engineering experience and/or high voltage experience. (or 2+ years with an Associate Degree)

Engineering Technical Specialist II: 2+ years of relevant engineering experience and/or high voltage experience. (or 4+ years with an Associate Degree)

Engineering Technical Specialist III: 5+ years of relevant engineering experience and/or high voltage experience. (or 7+ years with an Associate Degree)

  • Experience within substations installing, commissioning, and maintaining primary equipment and protection systems preferred.
  • Experience with developing or executing substation design packages preferred. 
  • Planning, organizing and project management skills
  • Effective decision-making skills and negotiating skills
  • Experience in training development and implementation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills (including technical writing).
  • Equally effective with working independently or in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices
     

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

Bachelor

Preferred Discipline(s): Engineering Technology, Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Engineering

Other discipline(s) may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.

 

In order to be a titled Engineering Technical Specialist, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • 4-year Engineering Technology degree or 4-year degree in Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or
  • 4-year degree in Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Engineering or other technical related discipline; or
  • 4-year non-technical degree and post-graduate degree in Engineering Technology or Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred degree
