Job Summary
This position is in the Relay and SCADA Operations Department inside of the Power Delivery Southern Operations (PDSO) organization at Dominion Energy South Carolina. The department is responsible for all maintenance and construction requirements for the relay protection and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) schemes in our electrical substations and generating plants. There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- These entry-level roles perform maintenance, installation and corrective activities on system protection devices, control circuits, metering, and communication equipment (both data and power line carrier) within Dominion's Transmission, Distribution and Generating network. All maintenance, installation and corrective activities performed under direct supervision and guidance from other technicians or engineers. Progression commensurate with years of experience and candidate’s skill/knowledge level.
- This position ensures that appropriate compliance maintenance activities, applications, policies, and associated documentation are managed and maintained in support of Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) and Protective Relay and Control (PRC) programs.
- Maintenance activities include instruction/guidance in routine cleaning, calibration, and functional operational testing of electro-mechanical and microprocessor relay protection applications. Assists during routine testing and functional verification of all communications equipment including data, fiber optic, and power line carrier. Assists during functional operational testing of substation auxiliary equipment and verification of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) data systems that provide the operating centers with real time operating and alarm information. Assists with protective relay and control equipment repairs.
- Installation activities include review of engineering design drawings of relay protection and control applications. Assists in functional verification of all primary and secondary equipment as designed by Dominion and its manufacturers. Assists technicians/engineers in the commissioning and return to service of new applications and equipment.
- Corrective activities include assisting in analyzing alarms, identifying potential problems, and developing safe and effective basic corrective action investigation plans. Activities regarding potential cyber issues related to protection and control devices require that security assessments be performed to verify the integrity of cyber security control at substation locations.
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

The knowledge, skills, abilities, and education required for entry into this job include the following:
-Basic knowledge of operation and maintenance of control circuits and protective relay applications.
-Effective verbal and written communication skills.
-Abilities: test basic and routine types of protective relays; lift up to 50 lbs.; manual dexterity; color vision; hearing; climbing; stooping; standing; bending.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experiences (T2)
The knowledge, skills, abilities, and education required for entry into this job include the following:
-1 - 2 years directly related experience.
-Basic understanding of operation and maintenance of protective relays, control circuits, SCADA systems, and substation equipment.
-Good verbal and written communication skills.
-Abilities: Test basic to moderately complex types of protective relays, remote terminal units, power line carrier and metering equipment; plan and organize basic substation construction projects.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experiences (T3)
The knowledge, skills, abilities, and education required for entry into this job include the following:
-2-3 years directly related experience.
- Good understanding of operation and maintenance of protective relays, control circuits, SCADA systems, and substation equipment.
-Good verbal and written communication skills.
-Abilities: Test moderately complex types of protective relays, remote terminal units, power line carrier and metering equipment; plan and organize basic substation construction projects.
Education Requirements
-Required Minimum Degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree): Associate
-Preferred Disciplines: Electrical, Electrical & Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Electronics, Electronics Technology, Instrumentation Technology
