Job Summary

This role is the second level position within the Damage Prevention Specialist developmental job progression, which serves as the point of contact for the service territory for all excavation damages on natural gas distribution pipelines.  Distinguished from Damage Prevention Specialist I, by the ability to exercise independent judgement and decision-making in planning, organizing, and conducting work assignments. The incumbent effectively utilizes the proper resources to develop solutions and devise new approaches to problems encountered in work assignments.  May receive instructions and guidance on unusual or complex problems and knows when to get others involved.

 

This position will be for the entire DESC Southern Division and worked out of the Charleston, S.C. local office.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications:

 

  • Responsible for the collection, tracking, and real-time reporting of damage data resulting from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd party dig-ins to Dominion Energy’s infrastructure. 
  • Review damage investigations to assure data integrity and accuracy.
  • Coordinates damage prevention in assigned DESC division.
  • Investigates damage incidents and monitors performance.
  • Interacts with local emergency response agencies including fire department, police departments, sheriff departments, 911 centers, government agencies, neighborhood associations and schools on behalf of the company to resolving performance and billing problems.
  • Attends damage prevention council meetings and actively participates in community events to ensure damage prevention is a top priority.
  • Oversight of Locate Ticket Risk Model and Ticket Management system.
  • Maintain accurate data to be utilized in the Ticket Management Risk Modeling software.
  • Assist in identifying negligent excavators and facilitate any state damage prevention enforcement procedures
  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct periodic Locator Training/Recognition for line locators in assigned gas service territory
  • Works with Operations to coordinate locate contractors and their contracts
  • Must have valid driver’s license and be able to drive
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

 

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and 3 + years of directly related experience
  • Directly Related Experience includes Dispatching, utility locating, Construction/safety management, utility construction/design experience, survey, quality control/assurance, field inspections, field operations, or facilities management.
  • Skills:  verbal, written and interpersonal communication; strong computer skills; Analytical skills to identify trends, analyze data, identify process improvement opportunities, and monitor activity and performance.
  • Abilities:  effectively interact with customers; teaming; detail oriented; Ability to manage multiple activities, resources, and time to achieve results and meet deadlines.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Business or Construction/Engineering Technology) and 5+ years directly related experience
  • 3+ years excavation damage prevention experience or utility locating experience
  • 3+ years Natural Gas Distribution/Transmission pipeline experience
