Job Summary

The agent in this role will manage the Auto Liability Claims process for Dominion Energy.  This involves coordination with DE’s auto insurance carrier, DE’s Safety Department, Risk Management Department, Electric, Gas, and Generation operations departments, and the Litigation team. This agent will ensure all auto liability cases are reported to our insurance carrier and then work with the carrier’s adjusters who will manage the cases.  This will include review of case work, approval of reserve and settlement amounts, development of case strategies and coordination with outside counsel and DE’s Litigation team.  This agent will also complete monthly review of the invoice from the insurance company to ensure proper billing and allocation of payments by each DE business unit. 

 

This agent will also be responsible for managing a general liability claims caseload.  The GL cases include property damage and personal injury claims.  The process involves contacting claimants, working with company representatives, gathering evidence including documents, statements, photographs, work orders, fire/police reports, sketches, and any other pertinent information needed to complete an investigation. The agent will use this information to determine liability and either agree to settle or deny the claim. 

For cases that involve litigation, the agent will coordinate with the Litigation team to support their efforts.  This will include gathering and maintaining evidence, preparing reports, documents, work orders, regulations, codes, standards, Company procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), etc.  The agent may also need to testify in court and other legal proceedings, represent the Company at depositions, arbitrations, mediations and trials. Helps the litigation team to prepare answers to interrogatories and requests for production of documents, etc. Prepares responses to information requests from other departments, legal counsel, insurance carriers, third parties, insurance brokers, vendors, partners, and joint owners. Provides training for other Claims and Operations personnel as needed.

Note:  Position can be filled in either Cayce or Charleston, SC.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

3+ years of directly related experience required. Insurance Claims handling experience or Utility Claims management experience preferred.  Experience in insurance or contract management would also be helpful in this role.  Note:  A Master's degree will count as one year of experience.  A partial year of six months or more of experience will be rounded up to one full year of experience.

Specific knowledge, skills, abilities and experience:

  • Strong interpersonal skills are a must as the role requires the agent to interface with customers/claimants, linemen, journeymen, local managers, law enforcement, fire departments, code enforcement agents, and legal professionals to name a few.  
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products and Database management skills.
  • Ability to work with our operations teams and understand the technical aspect of the work that was being done that led to the claim is important.   
  • Experience in managing claims files, preferably general liability claims, with the ability to investigate a loss, interview witnesses, analyze evidence, determine liability, factor depreciation, negotiate settlements, work with plaintiff and defense counsel, to bring resolution to assigned claim files.  Claims adjusting experience is preferred but not required for this position.  For example, litigation paralegals could be good candidates based on specific experience and backgrounds.
  • Strong negotiation, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to learn industry safety codes, regulations and standards.
