Job Summary

Dominion Energy is currently seeking an Engineer I or Engineer II to join the Reservoir Develpment & Optimization Team within Gas Storage Services located in our North Canton, OH office. There is one position available that will be filled at either the Engineer I or Engineer II level, commensurate with the selected candidate's skills and abilities. 


The Reservoir Development & Optimization Engineer I/II will:

  • Compile and review data for DEO Storage Well Risk Ranking using DEO’s inspection systems (Task-Op), GIS systems (Small World), and manual data sources.
  • Perform QA and prepare data for import into the risk model
  • Maintain all required fields for DEO for Storage Well Risk Ranking
  • Work with DETI risk engineer to ensure DEO GIS data, and other risk variable scores are properly integrated into risk model.
  • Review risk model outputs and perform analysis; Risk Model currently includes 88 threat fields and 13 consequence fields for 809 DEO storage wells
  • Incorporate all aspects of standardization of processes and procedures
  • Update data fields as data is merged into Documentum system or other DE storage databases. Identify data gaps and participate in determining solutions for identified gaps
  • Ensure preventive and mitigative measures are tracked and documented by well as part of PHMSA compliance for DEO
  • Assist with preparation of risk ranking assessments for project selection and budgeting purposes.
  • Become proficient with DEO Inspection systems (Task-Op) and reports, work on continuous improvement of current inspection processes and forms. Assist with creating new inspection processes and forms as needed to address identified gaps
  • Assist with review and QA of field inspections and other SIMP tasks in DEO’s inspection system (Task-Op).
  • Participate in and document periodic reviews of: Risk Model variables, MOC, AOC's, procedures, and standards; Support internal and external audits
  • Assist with gathering data for reporting purposes
  • Ensure storage reporting compliance is maintained with all regulatory agencies
  • Manage and coordinate well testing program for storage
  • Perform inventory verification, deliverability maintenance for existing storage field
  • Provide support for production wells and B wells with the storage pools
  • Provide support for well deliverability and pressure monitoring
  • Communicate regularly with internal partners to ensure proper coordination with storage activities
  • Perform other special studies as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications)


Engineer I:

  • Master's degree with a minimum of 0-1 years of relevant Oil & Gas engineering experience OR
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 0-2 years of relevant Oil & Gas engineering experience

Engineer II

  • Master's degree with a minimum of 2+ years of relevant Oil & Gas engineering experience OR
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 3+ years of relevant Oil & Gas engineering experience

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals.
  • Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Planning, organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data and draw valid conclusions.
  • Effective decision making skills.  Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).
  • Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
  • Knowledge of conventional sandstone reservoirs
  • Knowledge of company operations and natural gas industry.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (FERC, PHMSA, EPA, OSHA, API, ASME, etc.).
  • Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills.
  • Perform special studies, as needed.
Education Requirements

Education Level: Required: Bachelor

Disciplines: Required: Engineering; Preferred: Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering



For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

  1. Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
  2. Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
  3. Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
  4. Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry or Math and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
  5. Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
