Job Summary
This position serves as the Vessel’s Operational or Maintenance expert working in Operations, Maintenance, Monitoring and Diagnostics, applying advanced and specialized expertise to interpret system and component digital data to identify performance issues and concerns. Working closely with vessel personnel, identifies, reviews, and diagnoses equipment, mechanical, or operations related problems, work methods, or procedures, to troubleshoot and solve complex problems for vessel assets and associated equipment. Takes a broad perspective to identify solutions and develop and provide recommendations for best practices, procedures, and practices, in addition to providing direction and advice for the development of projects, programs and technical products that will improve the ability to predict component and /or system degradation. Works closely in building relationships with the OEM representatives, understanding the contractual requirements. Provides technical guidance to the shore-side and vessel operational and/or maintenance management and staff to address and resolve mechanical and/or operational concerns. Provides technical guidance and mentoring to vessel personnel regarding Maintenance Management or Operational process, standards, with a focus on data driven performance, processes, metrics and analytics. Monitors maintenance or operational findings, system conditions, or practices to determine current and subsequent maintenance or operational needs. Makes recommendations for shutdown and on-hire preventive maintenance strategies based on the level of component monitoring, the current strategy and component condition. In addition, this expert level position evaluates and recommends maintenance or operational improvements/changes to optimize availability, capability and yield, or to address equipment or operational failures and findings (including preventive and unscheduled outages). Keeps abreast of changing technologies, updates. Works independently, applying extensive and diversified knowledge and experience to resolve complex issues or maximum efficiencies. May prepare technical, mechanical, or operational reports as needed to identify concerns, system/component degradation and/or propose improvements to processes and procedures. Leads or provides guidance to functional teams or projects as needed.
This position will back-up the Maintenance Coordinator, Operations Coordinator, and Logistics Coordinator.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
7-8+ years of specialized expertise developed through a combination of job-related training and considerable directly related work experience and is recognized as a mechanical or maintenance expert with in-depth knowledge of vessel technology. Demonstrates considerable knowledge of design and operation of complex systems, equipment and operations, which may be indicated by advanced certification of licenses, or training. Possesses an in-depth knowledge of industry codes, class regulations, government regulations, and ISM code. Knowledge of business/financial and contractual matters with in-depth knowledge of operational/mechanical and technical design applications. Possesses considerable knowledge and understanding of data driven performance, process, metrics and analytics to provide technical guidance and mentoring, to vessel staff regarding Maintenance and Operational Management Processes, Standards, and Systems. Demonstrates exceptional problem-solving skills possesses a questioning attitude and is highly skilled in the identification and resolution of vessel system issues, related operational or mechanical equipment failure, and the development of recommendations for repairs, maintenance or operational solutions to ensure smooth and continual operation. The individual will coordinate with the numerous OEMs to provide troubleshooting. Strong organizational skills, skilled in maintaining and preparing documentation, records, schematics, policies/procedures, and identifying/monitoring reoccurring issues and trends to develop recommendations. Possesses excellent communications skills, skilled in communicating recommendations and issues to a variety of audiences. Strong presentation skills, skilled in prepared technical documentation and resources for maintenance/operational reference. Demonstrated ability to prepare technical reports or operational procedures to document equipment modifications, procedures or practices. Advanced knowledge of vessel operations, navigation, electrical and mechanical systems, typically gained through considerable related work experience.
Education Requirements
Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred degree.
Bachelor preferred in Engineering
Disciplines: Maritime, Maintenance-Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering
Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred disciplines listed above.
Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description
Professional Engineer preferred or Maritime Operations license.

Will be expected to attend vessel underway at maritime docking facilities and in industrial settings (shipyard).
