Job Summary
Dominion Energy is looking to hire a Network Analyst located in Norfolk, VA to perform as a technical resource in support of Dominion’s Data/Telecommunication Network for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW)location in order to ensure the continuous operation of all facilities, locations and systems. These systems include, but is not limited to; routers, switches, Wi-Fi access points, Radio Systems/Handhelds, LTE Core/RAN, and DWDM systems. Must be self-motivated, and a collaborative team member. Technical level knowledge and experience in Data Networking and Telecommunication hardware, standards and protocols are required.
CVOW will be one of the first and the largest offshore windfarms in the United States. It is located 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach and will consist of 176 turbines and 3 offshore substations, with a net generating capacity of approximately 2,600 MW.
The successful candidate must keep current with regulatory and industry standards, trends and practices and assist in the development of pertinent Dominion Energy policies and procedures.
Primary job duties include, but not limited to:
- At a fairly technical level, be responsible for daily monitoring, maintenance and availability for all Data/Telecommunication devices and networks for CVOW.
- At a fairly technical level, maintain, configure and install network/telecommunications devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, radios, handhelds, QoS).
- Perform maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations.
- Monitor network/system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning.
- Provide Level 1/2 technical support and troubleshooting to resolve complex issues quickly and completely using independent knowledge and judgement. Escalate unresolved issues appropriately and according to defined SLA’s to ensure timely remediation.
- Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure and systems.
- Liaise with vendors, IT and business personnel for problem resolution.
- Assist with developing and documenting processes, procedures and standards for associated technology and systems.
- Participate in on-call rotation to provide support for critical systems.
- Ability to fairly independently organize, plan, and prioritize work, projects and issues.
- Ability to follow, support and maintain requirements of regulatory programs.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
4 years of networking/telecommunication experience.
Physical Ability: Must be able to lift 45 pounds and pass a USCG medical evaluation. Due to safety requirements and equipment limitations, individuals in this role have a weight restriction of 265 pounds.
The ability to work offshore and possibly live on the vessel as needed.
- Expert level understanding of radio and RF systems. Including, but not limited to, Maritime VHF, aeronautical VHF, 4G LTE and TETRA radios.
- Fairly technical level understanding of network and telecommunication protocols and physical infrastructure. Including, but not limited to, STP, Ethernet, fiber, WiFi, AC/DC power, SNMP, etc.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including network diagraming.
- Must be self-motivated, a collaborative team member, and able to self-prioritize work.
- Experience with NERC CIP environments is a plus.
Education Requirements
Bachelor degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:
Preferred Discipline(s): Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Math or Business or technical equivalent.
Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.
Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description
- Must possess, and be able to maintain, Global Wind Organization (GWO) Basic Safety, Tower Rescue and Sea Survival.
- Must possess, and be able to maintain, USCG fitness clearance to work offshore.
- Must possess FCC GROL parts 1 and 3 certification.
