Job Summary
The Offshore Wind Instrumentation & Controls Technician is responsible for performing advanced maintenance troubleshooting and repair of instrumentation and control systems. This role will support the onshore Monitoring and Coordination Center (MCC) as well as perform fieldwork on offshore wind turbines and offshore substations. In addition to technical tasks, the technician assists with compliance, safety procedures, and daily reporting.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:
Instrument Technician II
- 2+ years of relevant experience in instrumentation and controls work. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot various components. Ability to utilize configuration drawings.
Instrument Technician III
- 5+ years of relevant experience in instrumentation and controls work. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot various components. Ability to utilize configuration drawings.
For jobs in an offshore or marine environment may prefer:
- Extensive experience working with SCADA systems, advanced PLC programming, remote monitoring systems, and VFDs is required.
- Considerable experience with AC and DC instrumentation theory and practical applications.
- Ability to work on advanced control systems, with experience in diagnosing and resolving complex issues in instrumentation and control loops.
- Expertise in interpreting and creating complex schematics, instrumentation diagrams, and detailed control system designs.
- High-level proficiency in calibrating, installing, and optimizing advanced instrumentation systems.
- Proven experience in gathering, documenting, and presenting compliance evidence for audits and inspections.
- Ability to work closely with electrical teams on issues related to substations, transmission lines, and grid interconnectivity to ensure optimal performance and compliance.
- Experience documenting work activities via operator logs and maintenance work orders.
- Proven ability to mentor and lead Jr. level technicians in advanced instrumentation troubleshooting techniques.
- Capable of managing and leading small-scale projects, particularly in complex offshore environments.
- Experience using advanced diagnostic tools and calibration equipment necessary for instrumentation systems.
- Expertise with insulation resistance testers, multimeters, oscilloscopes.
- Experience with specialized calibration tools for sensors and instrumentation.
- Excellent communication skills are required, with the ability to clearly and effectively convey technical information to both technical and non-technical team members.
- Capable of preparing detailed reports, conducting presentations, and communicating with regulatory bodies on compliance and operational matters.
- Must be flexible and available for offshore rotations, including overtime, unscheduled callouts, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be prepared for extended offshore deployments with limited notice.
- Ability to climb to heights up to 250 feet or greater and work in confined spaces
- Must meet body weight restrictions of 265 lbs. or less as required by the safety regulations.

Preferred: Global Wind Organization (GWO) Basic Safety Training (BST) certification, Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET)
