We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below will be considered for this opportunity. 

At this time, Dominion Energy cannot transfer or sponsor a work visa or employment authorization for this position.

This position does not offer relocation assistance. 

 

Job Summary

Note:  This position is located in the Norfolk office but will include statewide travel in Virginia and weekly visits to Richmond. 

  • Assist State and Local Affairs team with development and implementation of external outreach and communication strategies supporting Dominion Energy’s overall policy strategies, including legislative engagement in the Hampton Roads region and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining strong partnerships with key business, economic development, governmental and media contacts.
  • Represent Dominion Energy at community, civic, and political events.
  • Serve as a liaison to state and local elected and appointed officials, local businesses, business groups, military, and other customers.
  • Ensure prompt and appropriate company responses to community leaders and elected officials on constituent questions, problems, or concerns.  
  • Assist internal project teams with Dominion Energy external-facing projects.
  • Assist team during major storm and/or outage events as needed.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

5+ years of related work experience and knowledge of government, public policy or economic development.

Specific knowledge, skills, abilities and experience include:

  • Mastered knowledge and understanding of the energy industry in Virginia
  • Mastered knowledge of the state and local law-making process
  • Effective interpersonal skills, ability to work with others in a team environment as well as provide leadership to less experienced team members
  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills
  • Ability to multi-task, synthesize ideas, and plan strategically
  • Ability to provide input in setting objectives and policy, identity critical issues, and introduce new concepts
  • Effective communication skills and ability to develop rapport with all levels of internal and external organization personnel
  • Ability to work well in a grass roots environment
  • Self-starter and able to make decisions independently
  • Provide assistance, advice, and solutions to peers, customers, and co-workers

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:  Bachelor

 

Preferred Disciplines:  Political & Public Affairs, Political Science, Mass Communication

 

Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above
