Job Summary

Dominion Energy’s North Anna Power Station is seeking a Mechanical Engineering 2019 summer intern to serve as a member of the Station’s Nuclear Engineering Component Engineering Group. The qualified candidate will work on site and provide technical support to Maintenance and Operations on a broad range of engineering issues both on the component and system level. Mechanical Engineers also provide repair recommendations, design modifications and Engineering documentation to support planned work activities. The candidate will be expected to gain familiarity with Nuclear Power Plant design. 

Activities include, but not limited to:

  • Performing analyses and evaluations that support nuclear plant operation (eg: supports, structure, concrete, steel)
  • Developing/Supporting design modification packages
  • Maintaining the applicable design bases and calculations that support nuclear plant safety and operation
  • Identifying improvements in areas related to Mechanical Engineering analysis and processes
  • Supporting plant outage activities during planned and/or unplanned outages

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Good general computer skills including proficiency with using Microsoft Office products is desired.
  • Must have a personal commitment to all aspects of workplace safety.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and be a team player.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices. 
  • Ability to process information and effectively manage multiple tasks. 
  • Strong planning, organizational and project management skills. 

Education Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited Mechanical, Nuclear, or related Engineering program at a four year college or university.
  • Must have an anticipated graduation date of spring 2022.
  • Must have a GPA of 2.5 or greater, 3.0 or higher desired.
