Job Summary

Electrical Engineer (EE) II / III at our Dominion Energy, North Anna Power Station. This candidate will be working on the Subsequent Licenses Renewal (SLR) Projects. This position will report to the Supervisor of SLR Projects at North Anna Power Station. The assigned area of responsibility will be electrical engineering duties in various (~15) SLR Projects within the SLR portfolio. These projects include, main condenser replacement, fuel transfer system upgrades, polar crane upgrades, main generator replacement to name a few. The individual will be responsible for providing Electrical Engineering support for multiple station improvement projects with a goal of safe, reliable operation of the North Anna units throughout the subsequent license period out to year 80 of plant life (2060).  The selected candidate will provide leadership and direction to engineering contract organizations supporting the SLR projects as an Engineer of Choice (EOC).

Schedules and coordinates major segments of complex projects to meet cost and time objectives. Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered and develops engineering criteria ensuring compliance with design criteria and standards. At higher levels of proficiency within this classification, incumbents are expected to provide technical expertise and/or team leadership as needed. May be required to apply diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to major projects that have significant impact on programs in varied areas and related fields. May serve as a technical expert on engineering
Included duties:
1. Support the development of high quality and technically sound Design Change Packages (including drawings) to provide for engineered plant improvements and solutions to operations and maintenance problems which ensure long-term equipment reliability. This position requires engagement and intrusiveness with Engineering vendors, Corporate Engineering, station stakeholders and implementing personnel throughout all design phases.
2. Support the preparation/revision/review of calculations in support of engineering products.
3. Support the preparation and revision of specifications for the procurement of new or replacement mechanical and electrical equipment and interface with vendors to resolve technical matters. Interface with vendors to resolve technical matters.
4. Support the preparation/review of engineering studies to evaluate design related system operational problems and/or recommended equipment/system replacements in order to provide technically sound engineering solutions.
5. Provide routine technical support for design-related issues in construction, maintenance, and operations which may include the development of engineering technical evaluations.
6. Demonstrated ability to provide oversight and guidance to Engineering vendors of choice (EOC) to ensure the best quality product and most cost effective solution that's in the best interest of Dominion Energy to operate the nuclear units for an additional 40 years to year 2060.

7. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience


-An ABET accredited Electrical Engineering degree (Bachelor's degree or higher)

-Engineer II requires at least 3 years of electrical engineering experience

-Engineer II requires at least 5 years of electrical engineering experience

  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project lead
  • Provide guidance to less experienced engineers
  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices including  National Electric Code
  • In depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Mat lab, Excel, etc.)
  • Proven decision making skills, Ability to process information quickly and effectively manages multiple tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess a strong bias for safety and support Dominion Energy’s core values for Nuclear, Industrial, Radiological and Environmental Safety in all aspects of work.
  • Nuclear Design Engineering experience, Project Engineering, Project Management or Construction experience
  • Experience in developing Engineering Specifications (Procurement, Design, Installation, etc.)
  • PE, FE, SRO or STA certifications
  • Extensive Design Experience of Electrical Power Distribution, Electrical System Protection,  and Electrical Industrial Control Systems for Power Stations or other larger Industrial Facilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, Dedication to achieving milestones, Willingness to travel for benchmarking and other business.
  • Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications
Education Requirements

Education Level: Required: Bachelor, Disciplines: Required: Electrical Engineering

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
  • Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry or Math and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, orHolds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
