Job Summary

Job Summary

Non-Licensed Operators operate the turbine generator and reactor support systems while gaining the requisite knowledge and experience to become licensed Reactor Operators.  This role ensures that primary and secondary plant equipment operates properly by executing operational surveillance procedures, surveying and recording readings on equipment, and implementing prescribed operational procedures.

 

Successful candidates must be available to attend the Foundations Class which will begin in Summer of 2025. 

 

This position is represented by IBEW local Union 50 and has a starting hourly rate of $32.28.


Job duties include: 
•    Locally operate the turbine generator and reactor support systems while gaining the requisite knowledge and experience to become licensed Reactor Operators. 
•    Obtain input and direction from Licensed Control Room Operators and various Supervisors. 
•    Monitor and control equipment and associated systems. 
•     Perform minor maintenance 
•    Execute operational surveillance procedures to ensure that equipment and systems are functioning safely
•    Survey and record readings on plant equipment to detect any potential problems and determine if readings indicate abnormal trends
•    Assist in coordinating maintenance and surveillance activities
•    Control valves and switches locally
•    Hang and remove plant safety tags
•    Assist in refueling operations
•    Assist in preparing, transferring, loading and unloading nuclear fuel elements
•    Assist in development and implementation of training programs
•    Provide relief for other positions as required and work without assistance in job areas where sufficient knowledge and training are present
•     Participate in on-the-job training

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The ideal Nuclear Control Room Operator Trainee candidate will posses the following: 

  • Successful completion of Algebra II.
  • 0-2 years of experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot assigned systems and equipment. 
  • The ability to operate various equipment and maintenance tools. 
  • Willingness to study and learn while on and off the job. 
  • Excellent reasoning ability. 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision. 
  • Must be a self starter with the ability to quickly diagnose equipment issues 
  • Ability to interface well with peers and supervisors 
  • Must possess leadership qualities 
  • Must have a positive attitude 

 

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • Successful completion of advanced math classes to include trigonometry and pre-calculus
  • Prior military experience
  • Prior work experience in an industrial or construction environment 
  • Prior nuclear experience 
  • Vocational or Technical training

Education Requirements

  • Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Preferred: Associates degree in Engineering Technology
