Job Summary

Dominion Energy is currently seeking Control Room Operator - Nuclear (Non-Licensed Reactor Operator) candidates for our North Anna Nuclear Power Station located in Mineral, VA.

  • Candidates will be expected to qualify and perform operational duties on all support systems associated with a commercial pressurized water reactor.
  • Candidates will be expected to obtain an NRC Reactor Operating License as part of their qualification program at a future date.
  • Non-Licensed Operators stand watch on 12-hour shifts, operating the turbine generator and reactor support systems while gaining the requisite knowledge and experience to become license reactor operators.  Shift work, overtime, continuous training with periodic examinations, and respirator qualifications are required.  Those with the potential, desire and proven performance are promoted to positions of increased responsibility and leadership.
  • Individual will be part of the emergency response organization and some travel (for periods of up to a month or more) may be required to support other station outages.
  • This position is represented by the Bargaining Agreement between Dominion and the Local 50 Union of the IBEW.


Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

To be considered for this position you must have one of the following qualifications:


  • Successfully completed the Naval Nuclear Propulsion training program and possess a minimum of 4 years hands on experience in the field/fleet in one of the following disciplines:  EM, MM, ET or ELT


  • Completed a similar Non-Licensed Operator training program at another commercial nuclear station and possess a minimum of 4 years directly related experience


  • Have or have held an RO or SRO license at a nuclear facility


  • Possess a BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Nuclear preferred) and 1 year of power plant experience

Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or more rounds to one full year of qualifications.
The company is actively seeking United States military veterans and service members who meet the qualifications.

• Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined.

Education Requirements

Required:  High School Diploma or GED

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

ANS 3.1  12/79, Section  Education:  High School Diploma.  Non-licensed Operators whose actions could affect the quality of structures, systems and components important to safety shall have one (1) year of power plant experience.

Be qualified to perform various tasks at the nuclear power plant by demonstrating performance capability for the tasks assigned and operating knowledge of systems involved and their relationship to plant safety.
