Job Summary

Nuclear Planner

This fully functional level prepares automated work order packages, researches maintenance history and change documents, identifies steps for work orders and required parts to ensure timely scheduling and completion of work orders and preventive maintenance programs for a nuclear power station. Conducts walkdowns to verify engineering documents, locate equipment, or assess plant conditions. Obtains and reviews vendor manuals, drawings and procedures, researches vendor sources and historical costs. Determines material or service requirements, locates vendor source which meets technical/performance expectations and maintains the plant as a low cost producer. Interfaces with technicians, supervisors, and operators to clarify issues regarding scope, materials, and testing requirements. Orders materials and parts, creates parts id, expedites parts for emergent work, negotiates best price with vendor sources. Tracks progress and retains historical data and vendor history. Monitors work activities to identify and resolve schedule impacts and conflicts and ensure that priorities are communicated. Makes recommendations regarding the use of equipment and facilities on site. Attends pre-outage coordinators' meetings and other planning/scheduling meetings to obtain information and provide input.

 

Senior Nuclear Planner

As the technical expert for designated craft, prepares automated work order packages, researches maintenance history and change documents, identifies steps for work orders and required parts to ensure timely scheduling and completion of work orders and preventive maintenance programs for a nuclear power station. Ensures periodic tests and maintenance programs are completed prior to deadline. Functions as the lead for designated craft. Creates, maintains and analyzes outage/non-outage and major maintenance packages, as well as, tracks progress and retains historical data. Conducts walkdowns to verify engineering documents, locate equipment, or assess plant conditions. Obtains and reviews vendor manuals, drawings and procedures, researches vendor sources and historical costs. Determines material or service requirements, locates vendor source which meets technical/performance expectations and maintains the plant as a low cost producer. Interfaces with technicians, supervisors, and operators to clarify issues regarding scope, materials, and testing requirements. Orders materials and parts, creates parts id, expedites parts for emergent work, negotiates best price with vendor sources. Provides technical expertise to less experienced planners. Conducts planning meetings with various departments to ensure that planning of maintenance activities are properly identified, integrated and resource leveled. Acts as the planning supervisor when designated in his/her absence.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

Nuclear Planner

2+ years experience demonstrating working knowledge of craft specialty and/or nuclear operations. Previous plant experience required. Considerable work experience in corrective maintenance/job planning and scope assessment.

In lieu of preferred related Associate's degree, may substitute High School diploma/GED and 4+ years directly related experience, to include completion of technical program in craft discipline (mechanical, electrical, instrument and controls, etc.) or nuclear operations training program.

Strong analytical skills, with proven ability to assess work requirements, to gather and validate information to determine physical and labor requirements, and to establish and modify work priorities. Strong organizational skills, with proven ability to plan and schedule both planned and emergent work. Good negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate working with a variety of individuals in assessment of technical and/or part requirements and work priorities. Skilled in use of computer and scheduling software.

 

Senior Nuclear Planner

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

5+ years' directly related work experience demonstrating expert knowledge of craft specialty and/or nuclear operations. 

In lieu of preferred related Associate's degree, may substitute High School diploma/GED and 7+ years directly related experience, to include completion of technical program in craft discipline (mechanical, electrical, instrument and controls, etc.) or nuclear operations training program.

Expert skills to serve as a technical lead/resource to others. Exceptional skill in organizing work schedules, establishing and modifying work priorities, and validating information to determine and meet physical and labor requirements. Considerable experience in corrective maintenance/job planning and scope assessment to ensure activities are properly identified and integrated. Strong analytical skills, with proven ability to assess work requirements. Considerable negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate working with a variety of individuals in assessment of technical and/or part requirements and work priorities. Skilled in use of computer and scheduling software.

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:
