Job Summary
This position is responsible for performing routine plant inspection rounds, which include but are not limited operating, monitoring, and inspecting various plant equipment such as motors, pumps, fans, compressors, and valves to support hydro turbine pump, and electric generator operations.
This position will troubleshoot unit conditions during plant upsets and perform preventative maintenance. Other duties include:
- Starting, stopping, isolating, and preparing equipment for maintenance
- Lock-Out Tag-Out, operation, and logging plant conditions.
- Operates a forklift, basic rigging, and crane operation
- Minor janitorial work such as sweeping and emptying of trash cans to maintain a clean, safe work environment.
- Responsible for learning and performing remote starting Combustion Turbines at assigned sites and supports of other Northern Hydro’s and Peaking plants.
Due to limited staffing and support during emergency situations, the operator must reside within a one-hour driving distance of Fairfield Pumped Storage.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Hydro Pump Operator I
- 0-2 years of related experience.
- Must be able to complete the Apprentice Pump Hydro Operator training program.
- Must be able to demonstrate excellent physical condition to perform work duties safely.
- Must have the ability to learn, understand, and troubleshoot complex industrial electrical, hydraulic, mechanical operating systems and controls, and follow established operating procedures.
- Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shift, overtime work, and call-outs when needed.
- Must be able to work from heights, stand for prolonged periods of time, work outside during inclement weather, and working in confined spaces are normal parts of the job.
- Must have knowledge and experience with windows Microsoft office products are preferred.
- Some PLC knowledge and a familiarity with electrical and mechanical systems is a plus.
Hydro Pump Operator II
- 2+ years of experience in hydro pump operations or equivalents.
- Must be able to demonstrate ability to perform routing complex plant inspections rounds, which include but not limited to: operating, monitoring, and inspecting various plant equipment such as: motors, pumps, fans, compressors, and valves to support hydro turbine pump, and electric generator operations, lock-out-tag-out, or operations, and logging plant conditions.
- Must be able to operate a forklift, basic rigging, and crane operations and minor janitorial work such as sweeping and emptying trash cans maintaining a safe, clean work environment.
- Must be able to demonstrate ability to learn and perform remote starting of Combustion Turbines at assigned plants.
- Must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical one-line diagrams to properly isolate equipment to perform LOTO.

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:
