Job Summary

Independently performs chemical analyses on gases, fluids and solids in and around the nuclear power station. This is the fully qualified level. Independently collects and performs chemical analyses on gases, liquids and solids from process streams throughout the plant. Operates a variety of chemical test and analytical equipment including spectrophotometers, titration devices, ion chromatographs, gas chromatographs, atomic absorption and emission spectrometers, pH meters and conductivity cells. Maintains, calibrates, standardizes, and performs preventative maintenance on chemistry bench-top and in-line instrumentation and equipment. May serve as the shift lead to provide the requisite level of technical expertise to less experienced technicians. Assists in the training and qualification of students enrolled in the Nuclear Chemistry Technician Training program. Performs administrative duties in support of department operations, including procedure review and development, periodic test scheduling, and management reporting. Responds to a variety of system and process alarms, including turbine or reactor trip, and main condenser impurity ingress. Actively supports all elements of the laboratory quality control and quality assurance program and regulatory inspections. Undertakes special projects and studies as designated by laboratory supervision, and participates in self-assessments and Training Review Board meetings. Participates in the station's emergency response organization. Performs work activities with other station departments, vendors and contractors. Must be able to work a rotating shift schedule.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

Completion of Nuclear Chemistry Technician training program. Qualification as a shift-qualified Nuclear Chemistry Technician, which includes 2 years of applicable experience.

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

Associate

Preferred Discipline(s):  Science, Mathematics, Chemistry

Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.

Required: High School Diploma or GED

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

ANSI/ANS-3.1-2014, Section 4.5.3.1, 4.5.3.2, and 4.5.3.3 and Regulatory Guide 1.8, Revision 4, Staff Regulatory Guidance, 1.5 for Radiation Protection Technicians Education requirements: High school diploma

Minimum experience for the position: Related experience which shall include 2 yrs; Nuclear power plant experience 1 yr.

Note: In regard to "related experience" for radiation protection techncians, 2000 working hours is acceptable as representing one year of experience. There is no expectation of a minimum timeframe for accumulating these 2000 hours (e.g. not less than 40 weeks), nor is there a limit applied to the amount of hours that can be credited in a week  However, no more than 2000 hours can be credited toward related experience for radiation protection technicians in any one calendar year.

REFER to ANSI/ANS-3.2-2014, Section 4.1, for guidance on alternatives to degree requirements, experience substitution for education, and alternatives to experience (not allowed for Special requirements).
