Job Summary
Dominion Energy is looking to fill a Lead Telecommunication Technician position to join our Fiber Engineering and Operations Team. This position will be responsible for splicing, testing, and maintaining fiber optic cables on the Dominion Energy Network in VA. The position will work independently and as part of a team to ensure our fiber optic network is reliable, efficient, and meets enterprise needs.
This role is self-driven with highly developed skill sets and decision-making capabilities. The candidate will be working mostly independently in the field and have flexibility to arrange project priorities to increase work efficiency. Capability of performing and analyzing all fiber testing along with being well versed in the cable installation and documentation processes. Fiber Splicer can understand diversity needs and select the proper fiber routes to achieve the diversity required.
Primary job duties include, but not limited to:
- Working in and around fiber and radio huts, generation plants, substations, data centers, crew quarters and right of ways.
- Terminating and testing OPGW and ADSS fiber optic cables
- Performing cable preps and field splices
- Troubleshooting and repairing fiber strands and cable cuts
- Documenting fiber strand usage and updating cable records in Circuit Vision
- Reviewing and analyzing optical system route redundancy
- Participating in maintenance window cutovers and system grooms
- Support storm recovery duties during disasters.
- Work with Transport Team to turn up telecommunication services.
- All other duties as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
8+ years related experience for the Fiber Splicer with documented experience in testing and splicing or CFOS/S & CFOS/T certified.
- Able to splice and terminate older fiber with nonsymmetrical cores.
- Proficient in all aspects of advance optical testing and interpretation of the results.
- Must be able to support and guide lower-level Telecommunication Technicians.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong safety awareness.
- Well organized and high level of attention to detail.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing.
- Strong problem solving/troubleshooting.
- The ability to Lift/Carry Loads of 50 Pounds.
- Ability to process information quickly and function under high stress situations.
- Ability to develop rapport with Dominion employees, external customers, and contractors.
- Strong project management skills.
- Equally effective working independently or in a team environment.
- Experienced using word processing, Visio, spreadsheets, and GIS interfaces.
- Familiarity with BICSI, EIA, TIA, or NEC Standards.
- Attention to detail, trustworthy and self-motivated when working alone.
- Ability to read and understand schematics and field drawings, possess fine motor skills, work in remote locations, pass multi-level background searches (nuclear), able to work with spreadsheets (Excel) and GIS software.

May require some travel with overnight stays. May require additional hours, holiday and/or weekend work for project completion or to meet deadlines.
Will require frequent bending, climbing, twisting, balancing and reaching. Must wear the proper safety equipment as required by the job.
