Job Summary

Electric Transmission Field Operations is offering a hands-on internship opportunity for a System Protection Field Engineer at Dominion Energy's Lincoln Park district office. This role is ideal for students interested in power systems, protective relaying, and field engineering. Interns will work closely with experienced field engineers and system protection technicians to install, commission, and maintain protective relay and communications systems in substations—critical components for the secure and reliable operation of the electric grid.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation and commissioning of protective relay systems.
  • Participate in maintenance and troubleshooting of substation communication systems.
  • Engage in field inspections and hands-on technical work alongside experienced engineers.
  • Learn how protective systems safeguard grid reliability and respond to faults.
  • Collaborate with professionals across engineering and operations teams.
  • Gain exposure to real-world challenges in system protection and field operations.

Education Requirements

  • Candidate must be a full-time student,
    majoring in ABET accredited Electrical Engineering/Engineering Technology (preferred) or related program; OR
    majoring in ABET accredited Preparation Engineering Program with intentions to transfer to an ABET 4 year program.
  • With a graduation date of Winter 2027 or later
  • Must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher.

Hourly Rate:

 

$23.00 - $29.00

 

The hourly rate listed is the rate we anticipate paying for this position. If a range is listed, the actual hourly rate offered may vary based on factors such as the selected candidate's degree type, academic major, and/or school classification (e.g., sophomore, junior, senior).
