Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below will be considered for this opportunity. 



 

 

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the patrol and inspection of Dominions underground transmission circuits and the associated equipment. These circuits include pumping stations and equipment for the high pressure fluid filled cables operating at 230kV and 69kV, medium pressure cables and equipment operating at 69kV and XLPE cables operating at 230kV and 69kV. Successful applicant must be self directed and willing to take ownership of inspecting and insuring the reliability and integrity of the underground Electric Transmission circuits.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Weekly inspections of all underground transmission facilities.
    • Proper operating pressure.
    • Replace recording charts.
    • Monitor construction activity that could damage the transmission circuits.
    • Meet with contractors that request encroachment into R/W.
    • Work closely with the encroachment representative in the area on construction requests.
  • Respond to alarms at pumping stations.
  • Adjust line pressures manually when required.
  • Remotely access pumping station to investigate abnormal conditions.
  • Periodically obtain fluid samples from terminations for analysis. 
  • Oversee contractor work on the underground system when necessary.
    • Request clearances through SOC.
    • Provide clearance to contractors. 
    • Track contractor time for payment. 
    • Submit reports on activities when required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • 5+ years of directly related underground systems experience
  • Practical knowledge of electric underground transmission system (>/= 69 Kv) and/or network underground system (=/<35 Kv)
  • Ability to request and take clearance through the System Operations Center
  • Practical knowledge and experience using an electronic mobile inspection program
  • Computer applications aptitude to remotely access pumping stations - PC Anywhere MS Windows
  • Skills: good oral and written communication, analytical
  • Abilities: problem resolution, address multiple tasks simultaneously, handle constantly changing and emerging priorities

Education Requirements

Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: High school graduate or GED
