We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary
Dominion Energy is expanding the newly created Distribution Operations Engineering group to support Electric Distribution Operations Centers. This team is responsible power engineering studies to provide real-time operational support, as well as supporting dSCADA, FLISR, DERMS and other Operations Centers systems.
Associate Engineer
Perform engineering calculations, analysis, and reviews of the distribution grid for planned and unplanned switching events by providing recommendations to operating center personnel to remove equipment from service or to restore service after an un-planned event, without jeopardizing the reliability of the distribution grid. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing power flow and contingency analysis to model outage and non-outage events to identify effective switching plans to transfer load to other distribution facilities while minimizing risks to the electric distribution system. This position will interface with multiple organizations so strong communication skills are critical. Successful candidate will participate in the Switching Operator Training Program. Additional tasks include:
- Performing, reviewing, and analyzing power flow studies on the Electric Distribution System to support planned and unplanned equipment outages
- Communicate planned and unplanned outages to PJM when outage affects DER aggregations.
- Use engineering knowledge and principles to support equipment outages on the Distribution System while not jeopardizing grid reliability
- Provide engineering support, expertise, and leadership to the operations center team members
- Serve as a professional interface between Distribution System Modeling, Regional Grid Planning, SOC, PJM, and other entities as seen fit
- Provide support to the Regional Operating Center (ROC) in relation to real time distribution system operational needs, including support of FLISR and Loop Scheme automation.
- Review equipment outages by undertaking a thorough review of requested outages to understand the scope-of-work, clearances requested, switching required, and potential impact to the distribution grid
This position will be filled at both the Northern (Lincoln Park) and Central (Thomas F Farrell or West Broad Street) offices.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:
Associate Engineer = 0 -2 years of relevant engineering experience.
Engineer = 2+ years of relevant engineering experience.
Senior Engineer = 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
Staff Engineer = 8+ years of relevant engineering experience.
An Engineering PhD can be substituted for up to 5 years' experience based on research engineering work on directly related projects approved by executive leadership.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Ability and Experience for all roles and levels:
- Knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals
- Requires developmental experience in a professional engineering position
- Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives
- Understands and can apply knowledge of configuration management
- Ability to perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.)
- Planning, organizational and project management skills
- Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills
- Effective decision making skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing)
- Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems
- Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices
- Equally effective working independently or in a team environment

- Nuclear employees: Must have at least one year of Nuclear power experience.

Bachelor’s in Engineering

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:
- Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
- Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
- Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
- Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description
Note: Dominion Energy minimum experience and education requirements may exceed stated ANSI standards and candidates must meet the Dominion Energy minimum requirements.
For Nuclear employees, this ANSI standard must be met, all of which is met or exceeded in the Engineer series job summaries with the exception of the Nuclear Power experience requirement of at least 1 year:
ANSI/ANS-3.1-2014, Section 4.6.1 Education requirements: Baccalaureate or associate degree in engineering or related science. Minimum experience for the position: Related experience which shall include 2 years; Nuclear power plant experience to include 1 year.
