Job Summary
Dominion Energy South Carolina (DESC) has an opening for a Safety Specialist/Sr. Safety Specialist. This individual will have site responsibility for safety and training at Jasper Station in Jasper County and Canadys Station in Colleton County. There is one position available which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates' education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Administers and functions as site SME for various company safety and fire protection policies and programs.
- Responsible for providing safety oversight and technical support for Power Generation units at each site.
- Provides oversight, coaching, advice, technical expertise and training on safety, fire prevention, construction and operational work methods.
- Acts as a first responder to safety incidents and gathers and evaluates accident data.
- Conducts root cause analysis of safety incidents and recommends preventive actions.
- Identifies potential safety risks and implements corrective measures.
- Performs safety and/or fire protection inspections and monitors and evaluates work practices to ensure compliance with all OSHA, regulatory and company safety policies and programs.
- Maintains awareness of governmental regulations and policies that may impact company operations.
- Tests, researches and recommends new tools, systems and equipment, and ensures compliance with technical specifications.
- Develops, implements and conducts safety and fire protection training and presentations.
- May administer public safety programs for internal and external stakeholders such as first responders and contractors.
- Assists in the development of Accident Prevention Manuals, and technical training programs and materials.
- Works closely with managers, supervisors, safety committees, contractors, and other colleagues to develop risk reduction plans and supports other safety initiatives.
- Investigates third party safety incidents, often working closely with the claims department and regulators.
Specific Business Unit duties may include the following:
- Identifies, evaluates and controls chemical exposures in the workplace, and performs other industrial hygiene related activities such as coordinating hearing conservation, respirator and medical surveillance programs.
- Provides oversight for generation and construction projects including Gas Generation Projects.
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Location will be stationed at Jasper Station but will be responsible for covering the Canadys Station as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Safety Specialist: 3+ years of directly related experience.
- Understanding of company safety policies and work methods.
- Knowledge of applicable safety and fire protection regulations and requirements.
- Technical proficiency in applicable job specific discipline.
- Knowledge of applicable hazardous material/chemical management and transportation.
- Job specific knowledge of industrial hygiene sampling and surveying techniques.
- Strong communication, writing, interpersonal and coaching skills.
- Good public speaking/presentation skills.
- Good planning and organizational skills.
- Good analytical skills.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Ability to perform accident/incident investigations.
Sr Safety Specialist: 5+ years of directly related experience.
- Thorough understanding of company safety policies and work methods.
- In-depth knowledge of applicable safety and fire protection regulations and requirements.
- Technical expertise in applicable job specific discipline.
- Full knowledge of applicable hazardous material/chemical management and transportation.
- Job specific knowledge of industrial hygiene sampling and surveying techniques.
- Excellent communication, writing, interpersonal and coaching skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:
Preferred Disciplines: Fire Protection, Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Occupational Safety
Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.
Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description
Preferred:
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
