Job Summary

The Electric Distribution Operations department in Hampton, VA has an Electric Serviceman 1st class vacancy. This position requires a self starter who can effectively prioritize and who doesn't mind working alone and driving.

 

The successful candidate will have responsibility for the following:

  • The repair and maintenance of both overhead and underground electrical distribution lines.
  • Being the first responder to power outages.
  • Working closely with the Regional Operations Centers within the Dominion Energy service territory.
  • Working alone 90% of the time.
  • Available for call-outs during outages and for storm restoration events.
  • Eligible for premium pay for applicable overtime hours.
  • The starting pay rate will be $45.43 an hour
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

This position requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience in overhead and underground line work. (Note: a partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications.)

The selected individual must be able to assess at a competency-level 4 in the Dominion Lineman Development program in both overhead and underground energized line work.

  • Must have a solid understanding of industrial electrical distribution systems and maintenance techniques.
  • Must understand and be competent in switching practices related to the electrical distribution industry.
  • Knowledge of safety processes and practices within the industrial electrical distribution industry.
  • Must have strong communications skills verbal and written.
  • Must be able to understand industry 3-way communication method.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work alone 90% of the time while still being part of a local team.
  • Position requires the ability to obtain a valid class A CDL by the end of the 5th month of employment.
  • Weight restrictions also apply, for safety reasons, must be able to maintain a weight below 290 pounds.
  • This position requires working at heights, i.e. lifts, ladders, and climbing poles. 
  • Call out, overtime availability, and availability to work shifts is required.
  • This position requires you to be available a minimum of 60% of the time you are called in for overtime; Overtime varies per office and per season for an average of 295 overtime hours per year.
  • This position works rotating shifts (10hrs)
  • This position requires you to be able to lift and/or move up to 75 lbs.
  • This position requires you to work in all types of extreme weather
  • Prefer individuals who have completed a recognized Lineman Development program.
  • Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined above.
