Manager-Gas Safety & Training

Job Summary
  • Develops and implements occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and highway transportation programs focusing on factors which may cause accidental loss to the company or harm to employees or the public. 
  • Provides leadership in developing, implementing and auditing projects, programs, policies, procedures, management plans, and permits for safety compliance. 
  • Drafts new safety procedures or recommends modifications to existing procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Develops educational and training materials to enhance safety performance.
  • Maintains awareness of potential safety and health standards applicable to the natural gas industry, develops cost estimates for the implementation of changes in policies and/or procedures, assesses the impact of changes in policies, procedures, or standards, develops action plans and time lines for implementation.
  • Interfaces with state and federal regulatory agencies on matters involving OSHA or FMCSA compliance.
  • Provides technical interpretation and consultation to management and personnel on compliance with health and safety related regulations.
  • Leads professional staff in implementing safety and health related programs (e.g. OSHA Standards, FMCSA Standards, NFPA requirements, industrial hygiene programs, etc.).  
  • Works closely with various levels of management to identify areas of safety concerns and develop recommendations, policies, practices and/or processes to improve and promote a safe work environment.
  • Addresses contractor safety issues, evaluates contractor performance, ensures contractual language addresses safety concerns and that these critical safety requirements are incorporated in contractor contractual agreements. 
  • Analyzes results of site safety assessments, safety statistics, job site safety observations, near-miss reports and safety violations to identify trends and patterns of behavior; develops recommendations and actions that will reduce injuries.
  • Investigates incidents involving personal injury, vehicle accidents, property damage or near miss events to identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

  • Considerable safety and/or industrial hygiene related work experience (typically 10+ years) in an Industrial environment, with previous work experience in the natural gas industry preferred.


Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of safety and health procedures and protocols in an industrial work environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA and FMCSA regulations, federal, state and local regulations concerning worker and industrial safety.
  • Strong working knowledge of training tactics and skilled in the development of training materials related to safety education and compliance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytic skills, with ability to extract data and information from various sources to evaluate and develop recommendations and course of action to reduce safety risks.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with outside industrial organizations, federal, state and local officials.
  •  Certification in one or more of the following disciplines is preferred: Safety (Certified Safety Professional), Industrial Hygiene (Certified Industrial Hygienist), or Engineering (Professional Engineer).


Military Experience:

  • Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6 plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined above.
