Job Summary
Dominion Energy is seeking a Supervisor for Electric Transmission (ET) Operations Engineering team within the ET Strategic Initiatives group. This group is often referred to as ET Special Studies as the group provides domain expertise and engineering root cause analysis for unique operational challenges across Dominion Energy and the electric grid. As novel challenges arise, Special Studies cultivate and develops the necessary knowledge base and modeling, simulation, and other engineering capabilities to address them.
A successful candidate for this role will provide both direct supervision to the Special Studies team as well as serve as a proactive, vocal advocate for the team and their mission within Dominion Energy and the broader industrial community. As such, the role will require identification and cultivation of collaborative relationships with internal customer groups, key vendors and third-party services, universities, and research institutions.
The supervisor will be responsible for ensuring that the team functions efficiently on a day-to-day basis by balancing between
1. Providing power system modeling expertise.
- Steady state, dynamic, transient short circuit, etc studies
- Additional considerations for renewable energy resources to ensure their reliable integration
2. Managing the Dominion Electric Transmission Energy Center for grid Transformation (DETECT) Laboratory to ensure black-start readiness and any
hardware-in-the-loop related support
3. Supporting Dominion field organizations in response to equipment emergencies, material, design, and any other issues identified by the field including, but
not limited to, root cause analysis of events and improvement plans
4. Analysis and planning for significant increase in renewable energy on transmission, such as solar and wind energy
5. Performing/supporting evaluation, design, engineering, and support activities related to advanced power systems technologies such as FACTS and
inverter-based resources — can include manufacturer evaluations and support material requisitions as needed
6. Conducting research, development, and demonstration of leading-edge tools, technologies, and applications to maintain Dominion's leadership position
in the industry
7. Participating/collaborating with trade and industry organizations, benchmarking activities, universities, ISOs/RTOs, and national research labs
8. Assisting in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of computer-based tools for Dominion Energy's engineering groups
The supervisor will also be responsible for the provisioning of resources for capital project execution through collaboration with Electric Transmission and IT leadership. The supervisor will develop and implement strategies for team growth, recruitment, and efficient onboarding and training. The role also includes all typical supervisory and administrative responsibilities commensurate with the management of high-performing individual contributors in a large engineering organization. The supervisor will be able to perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Must be able to meet NERC qualifications.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:
- Significant directly related experience, typically 7+ years (Preferred advanced Electrical Engineering degrees may be considered in calculation of years of directly related experience).
- Special weight will be given to experience from an engineering or technology focused organization with a preference for experience in power system analysis modeling.
- An advanced degree (Master's or Doctorate) counts towards related experience. Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications.
- The candidate should demonstrate excellent professional ethics.
- Proven decision making and complex problem-solving skills and have demonstrated abilities to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks.
- Skills: Strong business and financial acumen, planning, organizing, and project management skills, as well as superior oral and written communication skills (including technical writing) when working with engineers, customers, and executives alike; strong decision making and complex problem-solving skills
- Abstract thinking, technical problem solving, processing information quickly
- Ability to work autonomously and resourcefully when given abstract tasks and responsibilities but should also be comfortable working amongst a team and under external constraints where applicable. The candidate should excel at self-education.
- Demonstrated leadership, teambuilding, conflict resolution, and coaching skills even when in an informal leadership role.
- Ability to effectively delegate tasks and responsibilities to the team, utilizing trust in subject matter experts to influence work balancing, prioritization, and direction.
Education Requirements
Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Master, Doctorate
Preferred Discipline(s): Engineering degree (preferred fields include electrical engineering with a concentration in power electronics, power systems, energy science or mechanical engineering with a focus on energy systems) from an ABET accredited Engineering program at a four year or post-graduate college or university.
