Job Summary
Dominion Energy’s Electric Transmission Substation Engineering Standards group is seeking a Senior Engineer to support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Substation Standards, with a focus on electrical substation design. This role serves as a key technical contributor in ensuring safe, consistent, and high-quality standards for station service, control enclosures, grounding, and battery systems across capital projects and operational initiatives.
The Senior Engineer will support and contribute to standard development efforts for Electric Transmission Construction, Operations, Field Operations, Reliability, and Project organizations. Responsibilities include developing and refining engineering standard drawings, design requirements, and equipment application guidance for substations, with emphasis on station service equipment, AC and DC auxiliary systems, control enclosure design reviews, battery systems, chargers, panels, disconnects, and associated electrical components.
This position will perform and support engineering studies and technical reviews related to substation electrical design, including station service load evaluation, low-voltage distribution, battery sizing, grounding system reviews, and control enclosure layouts. The role will apply engineering principles and CDEGS grounding analysis expertise or certification to improve the quality, consistency, and technical accuracy of standards and project applications.
The Senior Engineer will contribute to evaluating existing materials, components, and design practices for station service, control enclosures, grounding, and battery installations to identify opportunities for cost optimization, constructability improvements, reliability enhancements, and process efficiency. The role will also assist in developing substation purchase specifications and provide training or technical guidance to engineering and partner teams to promote consistent application of substation standards.
This position provides technical support to project teams and standards initiatives through engineering analysis, standards development, drawing and specification reviews, and coordination with internal teams, external partners, and vendors. The Senior Engineer will continue building subject matter expertise in substation electrical systems while supporting cross-functional alignment within the Standards organization and staying current with evolving industry practices and technologies.
