Job Summary

Reducing the number of days that a nuclear unit is in outage is one of the most impactful contributors to Dominion Energy’s Nuclear’s success, operationally and financially.  Improving outage performance over the long-term is a highly complex puzzle involving a myriad of partners, resources, and processes.  To help align these pieces in the most effective manner, Dominion Energy Nuclear is actively seeking a Manager of Nuclear Fleet Outage Performance (“Manager”).

 

The Manager will have ultimate responsibility, ownership, and accountability for the outage performance of Dominion Energy Nuclear’s fleet of four power stations.  Under their leadership, it is expected that the fleet will achieve top-tier outage performance within the industry.

 

Core to the Manager’s success will be their ability to identify outage best practices and implement them across the fleet.  The Manager will then provide the consistent leadership required to ensure the practices are adhered to over the long-term and will enhance a team culture focused on continuous improvement.

 

More specifically, the Manager will:

 

  • Provide fleet strategic direction, oversight, management, and personnel development to support Nuclear Outage performance improvement initiatives, including establishing an integrated nuclear fleet strategic model that incorporates best practices, industry learning and development, with specific focus on leadership development.
  • Develop and deploy a strategic initiative for continuous improvement of outage performance, including duration, planning and scheduling, across the fleet.
  • Establish expectations and standards for industry best outage performance throughout the nuclear fleet which targets execution, contingency planning, and prevention of individual and team shortfalls.
  • Collaborate with industry peers and INPO to assure deployment of up-to-date industry best practices in refueling outage performance.
  • Employ a structured approach to implementing change to achieve objective of continuous performance improvement across the fleet. This involves adapting the multi-station's organizational culture to engage the workforce in continuous performance improvement.
  • Provide direction, facilitation and coaching to fleet site outage and planning managers.
  • Work with fleet site outage and planning managers to serve as a facilitator and coordinator to identify and gather data related to gaps in outage performance, and provide insights, feedback and recommendations on actions to address and improve.
  • Provide oversight, management, and direction for refueling outage performance assessment processes, roll-up and reporting.
  • Employ a structured approach to implementing change to achieve the objective of continuous performance improvement across the fleet.
  • Provide oversight of fleet performance in Work Management.
  • Chair the O&P peer group as the CFAM for the fleet

 

In all aspects of their role, the Manager will be expected to build trusting and productive partnerships with a variety of stakeholders including the senior leaders at each power station.  Effective written and verbal communications will be essential in nurturing these partnerships and driving sustainable improvements.

 

The Manager will provide direct leadership to a staff that runs point in identifying fleet common practices for outage excellence based on industry best standards.  Further, the team will monitor outage performance and serve the power stations in an advisory role.

 

This role includes the Corporate Functional Area Manager as a collateral duty, not the primary role.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

To be qualified for the Manager - Nuclear Fleet Outage Performance, one must meet the following Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Possess ten (10) or more years of nuclear energy work experience
  • Possess four (4) or more years of management/leadership experience
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of nuclear industry refueling outage best practices, to include tools, techniques, scheduling, staffing, and execution;
  • Proven ability to align programs and processes across a multi-site fleet that drives continuous development and improvement culture, to include planning, developing, administering, and monitoring outage performance programs and processes;
  • Proven track record of achieving plant goals and indicators;
  • Proven ability to work with and develop a rapport with all levels in the organization;
  • Proven ability to interact productively with Fleet Executives, WANO, INPO, and industry peers;
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with all stakeholders to drive organizational improvements and influence as necessary to gain fleet consistency and ensure accountabilities;
  • Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities;
  • Ability to effectively manage and lead geographically diverse cross-functional teams;
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, including interpersonal, facilitation, and presentation capabilities. 

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education. Note: ANSI standards may apply.

 

The preferred candidate will have obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related technical field

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

SRO License or certification is preferred.
