Job Summary
Are you interested in seeing how electrical engineering helps keep the power grid safe and reliable? Dominion Energy Virginia's Electric Transmission-Substation Engineering department is seeking an engaged student to join the Protection & Control (P&C) Design Team for Summer 2027. The team develops and maintains the protection and control design packages used in substations across the electric grid.
In this hands-on internship, you will work with engineers, technical specialists, drafters, project managers, relay settings engineers, communications engineers, material coordinators, panel shop personnel, and field technicians. You will contribute to active substation projects, learn how designs progress from scope through construction and energization, and gain exposure to the technical decisions that support safety, reliability, quality, and constructability. You will also receive mentoring, participate in site visits and networking opportunities, and complete a summer project or technical presentation that connects your academic learning to real utility work.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for entry include the following:

- Foundational understanding of electrical circuits and engineering principles consistent with completed coursework.
- Interest in electric power systems, substations, protection and control, or energy infrastructure.
- Curiosity, initiative, and willingness to ask questions and learn new technical concepts.

- Interest in learning computer-aided design, engineering document management, and technical review tools.
Education Requirements
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and working toward a Bachelor’s degree in an applicable discipline.
Preferred disciplines include Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related field.
Prefer rising juniors and seniors with an anticipated graduation date of December 2028 or later.
Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
Must have a valid driver's license.

Hourly Rate:
$24.00 - $26.00
The hourly rate listed is the rate we anticipate paying for this position. If a range is listed, the actual hourly rate offered may vary based on factors such as the selected candidate's degree type, academic major, and/or school classification (e.g., sophomore, junior, senior).
