We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

The HVDC Strategic Project Advisor serves as the utility's senior expert and strategic leader for High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission initiatives. This role provides high impact project oversight, strategic guidance, and executive level advisement to ensure the successful planning, delivery, and performance of major HVDC programs that are critical to grid modernization, system reliability, and large-scale renewable integration. Acting as the organization's principal authority on HVDC technology and project governance, the HVDC Strategic Project Advisor leads cross functional decision making for multibillion dollar HVDC capital projects, translating complex technical requirements into actionable business strategy for leadership. The role provides independent, expert review of engineering design, vendor proposals, system integration requirements, commissioning strategies, and long-term asset performance plans. The Advisor drives enterprise wide HVDC strategy, ensuring alignment with regulatory obligations, long range transmission planning, resilience objectives, and the utility's overall grid strategy. They serve as a strategic interface between engineering, operations, procurement, commercial partners, and executive leaders, identifying risks, shaping investment decisions, and enabling predictable, high quality project delivery. With a blend of deep technical expertise and strong business acumen, the HVDC Strategic Project Advisor plays a pivotal role in advancing the utility's ability to deploy HVDC systems, strengthen regional transmission capabilities, and position the organization as an industry leader in advanced grid infrastructure.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

12 -15+ years in transmission/HVDC/HVAC integration, with 5 -8+ years leading large capital projects on HVDC.

  • Ability to translate complex HVDC engineering into executive-ready recommendations (cost, schedule, risk, performance).
  • Systems-level thinking (grid-to-valve hall), strong technical judgment, and risk-based decision making.
  • Demonstrated capability in developing technical inputs for commercial structures, including EPC and operating agreements.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional decision-making across engineering, operations, procurement, and executive leadership.
  • Experienced commercial and contracting acumen, including shaping specifications, performance guarantees, and long-term asset strategies.
  • Strong risk assessment and mitigation skills, with experience managing risks in large capital infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to drive predictable project delivery, ensuring alignment with cost, schedule, reliability, and operational readiness requirements.
  • Comfortable leading in ambiguity early-stage development through execution construction and operational transition.

Education Requirements

Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: 

Bachelors

Preferred discipline(s): Engineering, Engineering and MBA combination strongly preferred.
