Job Summary
Dominion Energy is seeking a Summer 2024 Graduate Intern to be a part of the System Protection Engineering team within Electric Transmission. The candidate will be part of a team that develops protection and control systems for Dominion Energy’s electric grid. Candidates should have a strong electrical engineering background and possess strong knowledge of engineering principles and practices; preferably in electric power systems.
Job activities may include:
- Power system modeling and analysis: transient dynamic and electromagnetic simulations and real time digital simulations.
- Develop protective relay settings for Electric Transmission protection schemes including: transmission line protection, transformer protection, bus protection, breaker protection, capacitor bank protection, etc.
- Assisting in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of computer-based tools for Dominion Energy’s engineering groups.
- Data mining and data analytics.
- Power system network model validation, merging, and management.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
- General understanding of AC/DC fundamentals, including an understanding of three-phase power systems, substation components and their functions
- Ability to read and interpret substation and transmission operating one-line diagrams, and relay functional drawings
- General understanding of the protection principles and practices for transmission lines, distribution feeders, and major substation equipment
- A working knowledge of analysis software packages such as PSS\E, Python, TARA software, Aspen One-Liner, etc., is preferred
- Self-motivator who has the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment, but is comfortable independently seeking knowledge and information
Education Requirements
- Must have earned a Bachelor degree in an engineering field and be accepted to and working on a Masters or Ph.D. degree in engineering (preferred fields include electrical engineering with a concentration in power systems, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering with a focus on energy systems) from an ABET accredited Engineering program at a four year or post-graduate college or university.
- Candidates must have a 3.2 minimum GPA or greater
- Must have an anticipated graduation date of Winter 2024 or later
