Job Summary

Dominion Energy  is seeking summer a graduate intern to be a part of the Electric Transmission Planning Team. This position will provide technical support to the transmission planners and the transmission modeling group. Candidates should have a strong electrical engineering background and possess strong knowledge of engineering principles and practices, preferably in electric power systems. A working knowledge of analysis software packages such as PSS\E, Python, Power Gem’s TARA software, Aspen One-Liner, etc., is also preferred.

Responsibilities include:

  • Power system modeling and analysis: Steady state and dynamic power flow analysis
  • Assisting in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of computer-based tools for the Electric Transmission Planning team
  • Data mining and data analytics
  • Power system network model validation, merging, and management.  Development of detailed substation models

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • General understanding of AC/DC fundamentals, including an understanding of three-phase power systems
  • General knowledge and understanding of substation components and their functions
  • Ability to read and interpret substation and transmission operating one-line diagrams, and relay functional drawings
  • General understanding of the protection principles and practices for transmission lines, distribution feeders, and major substation equipment
  • A working knowledge of analysis software packages such as PSS\E, Python, Power Gem’s TARA software, Aspen One-Liner, etc., is preferred
  • Self-motivator who has the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment, but is comfortable independently seeking knowledge and information
  • Must have earned a bachelor’s degree in an engineering field and be accepted to and working on a master’s or Ph.D. degree in engineering (preferred fields include electrical engineering with a concentration in power systems, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering with a focus on energy systems) from an ABET accredited Engineering program at a four year or post-graduate college or university.

  • Must have earned a bachelor’s degree in an engineering field and be accepted to and working on a master’s or Ph.D. degree in engineering (preferred fields include electrical engineering with a concentration in power systems, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering with a focus on energy systems) from an ABET accredited Engineering program at a four year or post-graduate college or university.
  • Candidates must have a 3.2 minimum GPA.
  • Students must have a graduation date of Winter 2024 or later
