We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary
This position is within a multi-series engineering job role (Associate Engineer, Engineer, Senior Engineer, Staff Engineer) in the Overhead Transmission Lines Engineering Department – Detailed Design. The department’s primary responsibility is the design, development, and implementation of high voltage (69kV – 765kV) overhead transmission lines. Candidates should be able to learn and apply engineering standards, principles, and best practices to design new overhead transmission lines. Applicants must be able to manage various components of complex projects and perform engineering functions to meet project cost and schedule requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform the 3D modeling & design of high voltage overhead transmission lines
utilizing PLS CADD software. This may also include the modeling of steel pole
or tower structures in PLS Pole/Tower software. - Perform deep foundation design for transmission structures in a variety of
geotechnical conditions. - Provide detail design packages for high voltage transmission line projects. This
will include, but not limited to, building new lines, re-building and modifying
existing facilities, fiber optic installations, and customer relocations. - Provide construction specification packages, including material requirements for
transmission line projects. - Support projects starting at the detail design phase, all the way through
construction to energization. This may include participating in on-site project
visits with the selected contractor and Dominion Energy construction personnel. - Interface with other departments within Dominion Energy, such as Project
Management, Construction, Supply Chain, Permitting & Route Selection, Real
Estate, Right-of-Way Administration, and Transmission Operations and
Maintenance.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
- 2+ years of engineering experience
- EIT Designation preferred, but not required
- Has a basic understanding of:
o Statics and structural loading theories and principles
o Geotechnical theories and principles (Knowledge of deep foundation
design is a plus)
o Geometric design and creating alignments - Strong computer and software skills. Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation
software is required. Experience with PLS-CADD is a plus. - Self-motivator who can work cooperatively in a team environment, but is
comfortable independently seeking knowledge and information - Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with
project teams, customers, other utilities, and government agencies. - Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and prioritize work based on customer need
- Knowledge of engineering theories, principles, standards, codes, concepts, and
their application to problem solving.
Education Requirements
Required Degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree):
Bachelor’s in Engineering
- Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
- Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
- Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math, or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
- Hold or have previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description
Note: Dominion Energy minimum experience and education requirements may exceed stated ANSI standards and candidates must meet the Dominion Energy minimum requirements.
For Nuclear employees, this ANSI standard must be met, all of which is met or exceeded in the Engineer series job summaries with the exception of the Nuclear Power experience requirement of at least 1 year:
ANSI/ANS-3.1-2014, Section 4.6.1 Education requirements: Baccalaureate or associate degree in engineering or related science. Minimum experience for the position: Related experience which shall include 2 years; Nuclear power plant experience to include 1 year.
Note: Associate Engineer is documented as a trainee.
