Job Summary
Position Overview: Develop, design, analyze and evaluate transmission facility additions/modifications by applying engineering theories, principles, and practices that contribute to safe, reliable, and cost-effective transmission line designs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1)Provide conceptual scoping, design and estimates for high voltage transmission line projects. This will include, but not limited to, building new lines, re-building and modifying existing facilities, fiber installations, and customer relocations.
2)Provide conceptual analysis and evaluation of high voltage electric transmission line facilities.
3)Select most cost-effective solution to achieve desired reliability for a given project.
4)Support projects through the State Cooperation Commission application process by providing engineering expertise in community and local government engagement, as well as during witness testimony at hearings, if needed.
5)Provide oversight and guidance to external engineering vendors to uphold The Company’s standards of engineering and safety excellence.
6)Interface with other departments or groups such as Project Management, Construction, Supply Chain, Permitting & Route Selection, Real Estate, Right of Way Administration, and Transmission O&M.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:
Engineer II Engineering Technical Specialist II: 3+ years of relevant experience.
Engineer III Engineering Technical Specialist III: 5+ years of relevant experience.
Ability to perform in a high pace, multi-task environment and to independently plan and organize work schedule.
Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with project teams, customers, other utilities, and government agencies.
Knowledge of engineering theories, principles, standards, codes, concepts, and their application to problem solutions.
Strong computer skills and application of pre-packaged software programs.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Willingness to make effective business decisions based on analysis and abstract thinking.
Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and prioritize work based on customer need.
Education Requirements
Required degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree):
Bachelor Required discipline(s):
Four-year accredited Engineering Degree, Civil Engineering preferred. (Engineer II/III)
Four-year engineering/engineering technology degree, Civil Engineering preferred. (ETS II/III)
Education Level for Engineer : Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required.
Required Engineering Criteria:
For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:
- Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
- Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
- Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
- Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license
Required Engineering Criteria for Engineering Technical Specialist: Preferred Bachelor degree's
In order to be a titled Engineering Technical Specialist, you must meet one of the following criteria:
- 4-year Engineering Technology degree or 4-year degree in Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or
- 4-year degree in Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Engineering or other technical related discipline; or
- 4-year non-technical degree and post-graduate degree in Engineering Technology or Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred degree
Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description
For Nuclear purposes only ANSI 3.1-2014, Section 4.6.1 (must be documented on form HR-AA-101)
Education: Baccalaureate degree in Engineering or related science (Physics, Chemistry, Math, Engineering Technology acceptable if all other pieces of the third prong of the Required Engineering Criteria listed in KSA section are met).
Minimum Experience for the position:
Related experience which shall include 2 yrs; Nuclear power plant experience to include 1 yr.
Note: Years of experience in job summary exceed the ANSI requirement for related experience (5+ years required for Engineer III).
