We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary
As Electric Transmission continues to expand, the Transmission Line Standards Team seeks new engineering talent to provide multi-discipline engineering teams with strong technical and project leadership for major engineering projects and initiatives. The successful candidate will join a team that establishes the Engineering Standards for the procurement, design, and construction of Dominion Energy's Electric Transmission high voltage overhead and underground lines. Candidates should have a strong engineering background in the civil, mechanical, or electrical discipline, with a focus on physical design principles and material science.
The position requires the candidate to plan and execute work necessitating judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaption, and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. They must develop innovative approaches to encountered problems and devise engineering criteria ensuring compliance with industry design and safety standards. At higher proficiency levels within this engineering classification, incumbents are expected to provide technical expertise and/or team leadership and offer guidance to less experienced engineers. They will apply extensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to major projects with significant impact on programs in varied areas and related fields. Additionally, engineers will serve as technical experts on engineering-related legal and regulatory issues to external entities.
Job Summary
- Lead the development of standards with ET Construction, Operations, Field Operations, Reliability, and Project Engineering.
- Conduct and lead engineering studies to develop transmission line design standards focused on physical, electrical, and mechanical applications.
- Document requirements for materials, components, and design standards for cost savings and process improvements.
- Maintain technical specifications for procurement, testing, and delivery of transmission line materials.
- Identify and approve new material and component suppliers and manufacturers.
- Conduct root cause analysis studies of suspect/failed materials in coordination with construction, supply chain and operations engineering.
- Participate in industry benchmarking and transmission-specific committees with IEEE, EPRI, NATF, SEE and ANSI.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:
Engineer II: 3+ years of relevant engineering experience;
Engineer III: 6+ years of relevant engineering experience;
- Knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, standards and codes.
- Competency in applying engineering principles with originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives.
- Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and other Office 365 applications.
- Effective decision making skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including technical writing.
- Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks.
- Experience leveraging project management principles to lead new initiatives.
- Proven time management, work planning and organizational skills.
- Equally effective working independently or in a team environment.
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience preferred for entry into this job include the following:
- Dedicated to continuous improvement and identifying best practices.
- Developmental experience in an engineering position.
- Experience with PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Vault and, or MicroStation Connect.
- Knowledge of transmission line design principals; 2+ years of transmission line design experience would be preferred.
Education Requirements
Required degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree):
Bachelor
Required discipline(s): Engineering degree in Mechanical, Civil or Electrical (Power) disciplines.
An Engineering PhD can be substituted for up to 5 years' experience based on research engineering work on directly related projects approved by executive leadership.
REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA:
For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:
- Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
- Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
- Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
- Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description
For Nuclear purposes only: ANSI 3.1-2014, Section 4.6.1 (must be documented on form HR-AA-101)
Education: Baccalaureate degree in Engineering or related science (Physics, Chemistry, Math, Engineering Technology acceptable if all other pieces of the third prong of the Required Engineering Criteria listed in KSA section are met).
Minimum Experience for the position:
Related experience which shall include 2 yrs; Nuclear power plant experience to include 1 yr.
Note: Years of experience in job summary exceed the ANSI requirement for related experience (3+ years required for Engineer II).
