Job Summary

The Nuclear Engineering & Fuel Department (Electrical/I&C Analysis Group) at the Innsbrook Technical Center is looking for a Nuclear Engineer II and/or III.  The primary focus will be the electrical and I&C systems and analyses at the North Anna and Surry Power Stations.

The I&C engineer will prepare and review Channel Statistical Allowance (CSA) calculations, instrument scaling documents, instruments specifications and standards, and perform dynamic troubleshooting of instrument & control systems. Also, reviews of vendor calculations and design change packages will be performed.

The electrical engineer will be involved with a broad range of electrical topics and duties will include performing technical evaluations, preparing and reviewing calculations, and providing technical support for the electrical analyses.

The Engineer II role provides engineering support; performs and/or reviews engineering calculations, analysis, research and design.  Under direction, exercises independence in evaluating, selecting and applying standard or well defined engineering techniques, procedures and criteria; prioritizes and makes moderately complex adaptations and modifications; assignments have clear and specified objectives and require investigation of a limited number of variables.

The Engineer III role performs difficult and complex work.  Duties include:

  •     Schedules and coordinates segments of projects to meet cost and time objectives.
  •     Plans and conducts work including independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria.
  •     Devises new approaches to problems encountered and develops engineering criteria ensuring compliance with design criteria and standards.
  •     Provide technical expertise and/or team leadership as needed.
  •     Serve as a technical expert on engineering related legal and regulatory issues to outside entities.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Engineer II

    3+ years engineering experience with a nuclear engineering background preferred.
    Minimum bachelor's or higher ABET-accredited Engineering degree; preferred concentration in Electrical or I&C


Nuclear Engineer III

    5+ years engineering experience with a nuclear engineering background preferred.
   Minimum bachelor's or higher ABET-accredited Engineering degree; preferred concentration in Electrical or I&C


Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  •     Knowledge of Westinghouse NSSS Instrument & Control Systems or equivalent (I&C candidate)
  •     Knowledge of nuclear electrical distribution systems (EE candidate)
  •     Knowledge of and competency in applying engineering theories and principles, concepts, fundamentals,  practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives.
  •     Ability to perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.).
  •     Planning, organizational and project management skills.
  •     Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills.
  •     Effective decision making skills.
  •     Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).
  •     Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
  •     Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices.
  •     Equally effective working independently or in a team environment.
  •     Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks.
  •     Full knowledge of engineering theories and principles.
  •     Skilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.
  •     Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project lead. Provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
  •     Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).
  •     In depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.)
  •     Proven decision making skills.
  •     Strong planning, organizational and project management skills.

 

Education Requirements

Education Level:  ABET accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

Preferred Discipline:  Electrical or I&C related

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry or Math and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
