Job Summary
The Nuclear Engineering & Fuel Department (Electrical/I&C Analysis Group) at the Innsbrook Technical Center is looking for a Nuclear Associate Engineer, Engineer, Senior Engineer, Staff Engineer (one position). The primary focus will be the electrical design basis analyses at the North Anna and Surry Power Stations.
The position will be involved with a broad range of electrical topics and duties that will include performing technical evaluations, preparing and reviewing calculations, providing technical support for the electrical analyses, and providing emergent technical support for the Nuclear Stations in the fleet. The preferred candidate will be expected to use ETAP software and be proficient in performing voltage drop, motor starting, short circuit, cable sizing, and arc flash analyses.
Placement in the Engineering job progression will depend on the level of demonstrated relevant engineering experience and proficiency with the types of analyses performed. Engineer I is entry-level position, Engineer II requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, and Engineer III requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
The successful candidate must have a four-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited institution, or equivalent (minimum job requirement). It is preferred to have a degree in electrical engineering.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:
Associate Engineer: 0-2 years of Engineering experience; Engineer: 3+ years of relevant engineering experience; Senior Engineer: 5+ years of engineering experience; Staff Engineer: 8+ years of engineering experience
Knowledge of nuclear electrical distribution systems
Knowledge of and competency in applying engineering theories and principles, concepts, fundamentals, practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives.
Ability to perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, ETAP, Excel, etc.).
Planning, organizational and project management skills.
Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills.
Effective decision-making skills.
Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).
Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices.
Equally effective working independently or in a team environment.
Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks.
An Engineering PhD can be substituted for up to 5 years' experience based on research engineering work on directly related projects approved by executive leadership.
REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:
Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
