We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

This position will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities. This role is located in Glen Allen, VA. 

Dominion Energy’s Power Delivery Group is seeking a motivated and experienced Engineer to be part of the Electric Transmission Planning Modeling Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for working within the PJM Regional Transmission Expansion Planning Process (RTEPP) to assess and develop the long-term transmission expansion plans in order to ensure system reliability, to meet future customer demand, to integrate the renewable energy resources needed to achieve Dominion Energy’s net zero carbon emissions goal by 2050, and to plan the grid of the future. Primary responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Perform power flow analysis in accordance with NERC Reliability Standards, PJM Planning Criteria, and Dominion Energy Electric Transmission Planning Criteria. 
  • Develop and maintain power flow and short circuit planning models, including the development of Model on Demand project files, contingency file updates, facility rating updates, short circuit change files, and facility impedance updates 
  • Work collaboratively with PJM Planning, the Electric Transmission Planning Team, and the Electric Transmission Operations Engineering Teams to perform annual PJM RTEP assessments, generation interconnection and retirement analysis, and develop transmission solutions to address all reliability criteria violations 
  • Participate during competitive FERC Order 1000 open windows by developing innovative and cost-effective transmission solutions
  • Perform short circuit analyses for various transmission network configurations.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of computer-based tools for the Electric Transmission Planning Team 
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned 

On the Modeling Team you will: Carry out data mining and data analytics on historical data to validate power system models and load forecasts. (MOD). Possess a comfort and familiarity with creating, maintaining, and using databases (MOD). Manage the development of the PSS/E power flow cases for PJM’s Regional Transmission Expansion Planning Process (RTEPP), the Multiregional Modeling Working Group (MMWG), and the internal Dominion Energy base cases. (MOD). Work collaboratively with many internal Dominion ET departments (the SOC, system protection engineering, substation engineering lines engineering, etc.), PJM, SERC, and other external groups to develop and maintain accurate short circuit models using ASPEN One-Liner (MOD)
 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

Engineer II: 3+ years of significant directly related experience 
Engineer III: 5+ years of significant directly related experience 

  • Full knowledge of engineering theories and principles;
  • Skilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines;
  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project lead;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing);
  • Strong personal computer skills;
  • Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems;
  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices;
  • In depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.);
  • Equally effective working independently or in team environment;
  • Proven decision making skills;
  • Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks;
  • Strong planning, organizational and project management skills. 


REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: 
 
For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met: 
 
Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or 

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or 

Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

For Nuclear purposes only ANSI 3.1-2014, Section 4.6.1 (must be documented on form HR-AA-101)

Education:  Baccalaureate degree in Engineering or related science (Physics, Chemistry, Math, Engineering Technology acceptable if all other pieces of the third prong of the Required Engineering Criteria listed in KSA section are met).

Minimum Experience for the position:

Related experience which shall include 2 yrs; Nuclear power plant experience to include 1 yr.

Note:  Years of experience in job summary exceed the ANSI requirement for related experience (5+ years required for Engineer III).
