Supervisor - Gas Operations (Dispatch) - NC

Job Summary

The Supervisor-Gas Operations (Dispatch) will supervise and lead a team of employees that provide 24 hours a day /7 days a week/365 days a year dispatching services for North Carolina, and will be located in Gastonia, North Carolina.  Dispatch Operations supports the Company’s gas distribution operations, including oversight of the emergency plan for timely service restoration during gas outages. The successful candidate is expected to work fully onsite Monday through Friday. A hybrid or remote work schedule is not available for this position. 

 

The Supervisor:
o    will ensure proper work methods are applied and safety precautions are followed. 
o    will advise and assist in training and development of employees and communicate across varied disciplines to complete tasks and resolve issues. 
o    generally works day shift Monday to Friday, applicants must be capable of meeting with employees on all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, if necessary. 
o    must be available to receive calls related to system problems, scheduling issues, and/or emergencies at all hours of the day/night. 


Responsibilities include:
•    Strong, demonstrated leadership traits including the ability to effectively manage conflict and model the Company’s values and Code of Ethics and Business Conduct
•    Must be able to demonstrate strong supervisory skills with a team of diverse employees including: ability to influence, lead, direct, coach, mentor, train, develop and manage employees
•    Evaluating and developing the dispatcher team
•    Providing training related to safety, proper procedures, and job performance
•    Monitoring to ensure adherence to procedures, quality customer service, and employee productivity
•    Scheduling and ensuring adequate dispatcher shift coverage
•    Ensuring that dispatchers have access to the appropriate software and applications for performance of job duties
•    Working with Operations leadership to ensure optimum workforce management and efficient completion of field work orders
•    Ensuring adequate communication with field employees and leadership
•    Properly recognizing and managing abnormal operating conditions, and making the appropriate notifications
•    Performing time and expense approval
•    Monitoring departmental budget 
•    Performs other duties as assigned
•    Some overnight travel and travel to offices throughout the service territory may be required

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

•    Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of directly related experience; OR
•    Associate's Degree and 5+ years of directly related experience; OR
•    High School diploma and 7+ years of directly related experience
•    Directly related experience includes:  utility operations and/or maintenance, dispatching, operations, customer service, contact/call center, transportation/service industry, emergency response, or other related fields


•    Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with internal and external customers in a competent and professional manner
•    A working knowledge of computers with experience using Word, Excel, Outlook
•    Demonstrated experience handling constantly changing and emerging priorities and scheduling/prioritizing work
•    Experience maintaining a sustained focus on work quality and safety 
•    Ability to prepares and lead regular employee meetings including business review, safety, and environmental updates
•    Ability to work and accept calls outside of normal working hours.

 

Preferred Qualifications:
•    Bachelor’s Degree and 7+ years directly related experience
•    3+ years’ supervisory, lead, or project lead experience
•    3+ years’ experience in utility or emergency response dispatching 
•    A working knowledge of SalesForce and/or SAP
•    Knowledge of natural gas / utility industry; operations activities; policies and procedures governing Company and customer generated work.

Education Requirements

•    Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of directly related experience; OR
•    Associate’s Degree and 5+ years of directly related experience; OR
•    High School diploma and 7+ years of directly related experience

 

Preferred Disciplines: Business, Operations, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Logistics

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Must have a valid driver's license and own means of transportation.

Office environment with limited travel.
