Job Summary

DESC is seeking to fill a position for Supervisor - Power Generation Operations & Maintenance (2nd Line). The position will be located at the Columbia Energy Center (CEC) and will be responsible for Operations of a three-unit (2x1-592 MW) combined-cycle cogeneration plant in Gaston, SC.   

 

The following describes the Operations position at CEC: 

The primary responsibility is to lead a self-directed team in the operation, maintenance, and repair of station equipment and facilities. This position will:

  • Monitor, check-up, coach, redirect, be an expert in all areas of plant operations and provide leadership in the implementation of policies, procedures, and work methods.
  • Will ensure 24/7 coverage for plant operations
  • Be responsible for hiring and development of training programs for operations personnel and water treatment personnel
  • Ensure the station operates within company, local, state, and federal environmental policies, regulations, and procedures
  • Be responsible for Lock-out Tag-out program for plant operations and maintenance.
  • Will ensure the proper equipment is available and maintained.
  • As a cogeneration facility, steam and demineralized water are provided to a host 24/7, 365 days a year from the HRSGs or three large auxiliary boilers. This position requires maintaining steam reliability to the host.
  • Will be a leading contributor to plant safety culture, environmental compliance, and NERC compliance.
  • The position requires a flexible work schedule to include long days and weekend work to support 24x7 operations, outages and plant condition upsets and may be required to routinely cover after-hours calls.  Associated with this on-call need is to participate in management duty supervision role.  

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s Degree and seven (7) years of related experience OR
  • Associate’s degree or within 6 months of graduating, (technical degree preferred) and nine (9) years of related experience.

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of power stations, electrical and mechanical systems typically gained through considerable related work experience.
  • Familiarity with labor contract and employee relations policies. 
  • Thorough understanding of company safety policies/programs, and environmental and regulatory policies/requirements.  
  • Basic knowledge and applications of mathematics, chemistry, physics, and computer operations.  
  • Basic knowledge of construction techniques  
  • Skills: leadership, problem-solving, negotiating, effective communications

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

Hourly Rate:

 

$116300 - $185900

 

The hourly rate listed is the rate we anticipate paying for this position. If a range is listed, the actual hourly rate offered may vary based on factors such as the selected candidate's degree type, academic major, and/or school classification (e.g., sophomore, junior, senior).
