Job Summary

Dominion Energy seeks a highly motivated Instrument Technician I, II or Ill to support Brunswick Power Station, located in Freeman, VA. There is one position available that will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate's knowledge, experience, skills, and abilities.

  • Inspect, test, service, repair, configure, calibrate, and install indicating, recording, and automatic control instruments such as flow meters, pressure gauges, thermometers, regulators, systems, and similar components in a power station, in outdoor settings as well as office environments.
  • Works on complex and detailed systems and equipment, including Distributed Control Systems, vibration monitoring, continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) and Programmable Logic Control Systems).
  • Have an in-depth understanding of industrial production and controls processes and work closely with station operations to troubleshoot and correct deficiencies, including tuning controls loops on variable process elements:
  • Routinely utilize personal computer software, such as Microsoft Office, maintenance management software, CEMS software, PLC logic software, instrument calibration and records software;
  • Locate cause of defective performance of instruments, report findings to supervisor, and replace component parts as required.
  • Use portable pressure gauges, manometer, and other similar test equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance.
  • Test flue gas, read meters, and record data as required.
  • Perform required engineering functions for control loop modifications.
  • Maintain drawings and configuration documentation as related to instrumentation.
  • May act as project leader or project contact for control system upgrades and/or modifications.
  • Depending on level the incumbent is hired into, may train and guide less experienced Instrument Technicians.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned;

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:             

  • Instrument Technician I: Associate's Degree in Electronics or related technology, with 0-2 years of related experience OR High School Diploma or GED with at least 2 years of related experience.
  • Instrument Technician II: Associate's Degree in Electronics or related technology, with at least 3 years of related experience OR High School Diploma or GED with at least 5 years of related experience.
  • Instrument Technician Ill: Associate's Degree in Electronics or related technology, with at least 5+ years of related experience OR High School Diploma or GED with at least 7 years of related experience.

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for every Levels:

  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance on all station Environmental Systems and Instrumentation;
  • Work with station engineering to write/modify control system logic to optimize plant performance and/or control;
  • Read and understand pneumatic, hydraulic, electric and electronic documentation, and repair power station equipment and systems;
  • Perform and be an integral part of functionally testing, during commissioning, all station systems and protective logic schemes;
  • Work independently and be self-directed when station and situations warrant;
  • Work a flexible shift as needed to support station needs. Must have availability and flexibility to work days, nights, and weekends;

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Associate
