Supervisor- Substation Technical Operations

Job Summary

This role supervises the construction, operation, inspection and maintenance of substations and related equipment.

  • Provides direct supervision of substation technical workforce comprised of the System Protection Technician series or Electrical Equipment Technician series.
  • Supervises construction of substations including planning, scheduling, energizing procedures and overseeing work.
  • Ensures proper safety and work procedures are followed.
  • Supervises inspection, maintenance and repairs of equipment and facilities, including energized equipment.
  • Ensures equipment, parts and supplies are available.
  • Provides technical advice to management and operations on system protection and electrical equipment issues, testing results and relay operations, to aid in service restoration or energization of major facilities / equipment.
  • Provides verification of system protection for electrical components and comparison to grid flow during commissioning and maintenance.
  • Responsible for the installation, commissioning and maintenance of data communications equipment.
  • Schedules outages for equipment maintenance.
  • Provides guidance of testing and repairs on substation equipment.
  • Prepares employee performance reviews and conduct employee training.
  • Maintains consistent administration of company policies and procedures.

 

The successful candidate will need to live within or be willing to relocate to a location within one hour of reporting time to the Augusta / Fishersville ET Office, located at 2036 Jefferson Highway, Fishersville, VA 22939.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Significant directly related experience (7+ years) in addition to preferred degree or its equivalence in education and demonstrated related experience
  • Completion of Technical Development Program preferable
  • Full knowledge of substation construction operation, maintenance and repairs
  • Full knowledge of electrical and mechanical theory
  • Intimate knowledge of FSC’s (Fixed Series Capacitor Banks), SVC’s (Static Var Compensators) and GIS (Gas Insulated Systems) basic maintenance and operation
  • Intimate knowledge of transformer assembly and processing
  • Skills: verbal and written communication, planning and scheduling, organizational, problem solving, decision making, supervisory, operate equipment and tools
  • Abilities: processing information quickly, flexibility, analytical thinking, walking, climbing, bending and prolonged standing

 

The company is actively seeking United States military veterans and service members who meet the qualifications outlined below.

  • Military service members and veterans with a rank of E-5 or higher plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined above.

Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Associate , Bachelor , Disciplines: Preferred: Engineering , Other Education: Engineering
