Plant Electrician - Apprentice

Job Summary

 

Wateree Steam Operations in Eastover, South Carolina has an opening for Plant Electrician. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electrical equipment associated with an electric generating station.

  • Previous experience with 4160 and/or 480 voltage motors, generators, motor controllers, and switchgear and/or distribution systems is required.
  • Knowledge and experience in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Variable Frequency Drives.
  • Maintenance and repair of distribution and power related equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, motors and variable frequency drives.
  • Related activities may also include use of hand tools, operating other equipment such as cranes and forklifts to move equipment, table saws, drill press machines and air powered tools along with the task of bending and installing conduit.
  • Heat Tracing and Freeze Protection, preventative maintenance, installation & troubleshooting. This includes electrical systems as well as the installation of physical barriers.
  • Motor operation and Maintenance. Motor cleaning, testing, preventative maintenance.
  • Medium Voltage conductor terminations and splices.
  • Installation, maintenance and repairs to lighting systems. Troubleshoot lighting circuits.
  • Understanding of motor controls and motor protective relays.
  • Familiarity and experience with grounding and bonding.
  • Understanding of circuit breakers and fuses.
  • Use electrical test equipment, voltage testers, ammeters, multimeters, megger, hi-pot, to perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on 4160 and 480V breakers.
  • Electrical safety and familiarity with OSHA lockout programs & national electrical safety codes.
  • Maintains and repairs distribution and power related equipment such as: transformers, circuit breakers, motors, and variable frequency drives.
  • Uses hand tools, operating other equipment such as: cranes and forklifts to move equipment, table saws, drill press machines, and air powered tools along with the task of bending and installing conduit.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

 

  • 2-4 years previous work experience
  • Previous electrical training (trade school, NCEER, apprentice program) a plus.
  • Requires working outdoors and during inclement weather, heavy lifting, climbing tall structures at extreme heights, standing for prolonged periods of time, and working in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and maintain annual respirator requalification.
  • Must be willing to work various shifts, generally day or evening shift, be able to work callout overtime, be able to support a 24/7 work schedule (shift work) including holidays and overtime.
  • Basic understanding of wiring diagrams and control schematics.
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools.
  • Basic understanding of AC and DC electrical theory to include knowledge of electric symbols and formulas.
     

 

Education Requirements

Completion of high school or equivalent (i.e., GED) is required.

 

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description
Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving history.
Other Working Conditions
  • Incumbents will also be required to occasionally wear a respirator and maintain annual respirator requalification.
  • Physical requirements for this position include working outdoors and during inclement weather.
  • Standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Heavy lifting, climbing tall structures, and working in confined spaces.
