Senior Land Agent - Birdseye Renewable Energy (Charlotte or Richmond)

Job Summary

Birdseye Renewable Energy (“BRE”) is a wholly owned affiliate of Dominion Generation, Inc. based in Charlotte, NC.  BRE has twin priorities. First, BRE leads utility scale solar and storage development of contracted assets with key C&I and utility customers in select markets within the broad geography of “Eastern US” for ownership by Dominion Generation. Second, BRE supports the development of solar (and battery storage) assets in the Commonwealth of Virginia in furtherance of the Virginia Clean Economy Act. 
 

Birdseye Renewable Energy (Birdseye) seeks a highly qualified and committed person to serve as a Senior Land Agent - Origination to contribute to the growth of the company’s pipeline of new utility scale renewable energy projects.


Primary responsibilities will include:
 

  • Procure new solar development opportunities, sourcing projects from internal proprietary GIS systems and outreach to landowners, industry professionals, brokers, and municipal governments
  • Achieve target goals for Birdseye’s new projects pipeline in the territories of priority utilities and RTO/ISO markets 
  • Collaborate with the Birdseye Executive and Business Development Teams, sharing market intelligence and providing direction on the company’s pipeline growth strategy
  • Perform preliminary feasibility analysis of candidate sites, conducting desktop level assessments of wetlands/environmental/land use, zoning/CUP approval processes, interconnection related constraints (queue congestion, study timelines, infrastructure upgrades/construction schedules)  
  • Coordinate with landowners and legal in the preparation and negotiation of solar lease agreements, purchase agreements, and right-of-way easements
  • Collaborate with the Birdseye Development Team (project developers & site design) to evaluate candidate sites with respect to project sizing, design, interconnection, and zoning/CUP strategy
  • Maintain/update internal GIS with inventory of candidate sites and related feasibility data (usable acreage estimates, site constraints, proposed solar development, interconnection studies)
  • Perform mapping to support site acquisitions, site feasibility analysis, and pipeline forecasting
  • Manage communications with landowner inquiries submitted to Birdseye website


Successful candidate can work out of Charlotte or Richmond office.  Strong preference for the Charlotte location.
 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

5+ years relevant experience in land acquisition / brokerage related work.  (Note:  A Master's degree will count as one year of experience).  

Specific knowledge, skills, abilities and experience include:
 

  • Active real license preferred
  • Strong Initiative and comfort with performance goals  
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Expertise in research 
  • Experience in using GIS software (i.e. ArcGIS, Google Earth)
  • Knowledge of development and environmental policy or regulations a plus
  • Efficient and comfortable working independently

  • Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience are encouraged to apply.
