Engineer II OR Engineering Specialist II, Site Design - Birdseye Renewable Energy

Job Summary

There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
 

Birdseye Renewable Energy (“BRE”) is a wholly owned affiliate of Dominion Generation, Inc. based in Charlotte, NC.  BRE has twin priorities. First, BRE leads utility scale solar and storage development of contracted assets with key C&I and utility customers in select markets within the broad geography of “Eastern US” for ownership by Dominion Generation.  Second, BRE supports the development of solar (and battery storage) assets in the Commonwealth of Virginia in furtherance of the Virginia Clean Economy Act. BRE is actively looking for an Engineer II or Engineering Technical Specialist II, Solar Site Design to join their team. 
 

This role will be responsible for the preliminary layout and design of photovoltaic power plants, basing assessment and impact planning on site due diligence. This position will be responsible for site evaluation and will work with a multidisciplinary team to develop site background design parameters and the design of site array layouts. Focus will be on storm water drainage and grading compliance, water quality, monitoring, and efficient planning of photovoltaic power plant projects.


Other details include:
 

  • Interface closely with the project development team
  • Support business development and operations by preparing design calculations and concept drawings (or having them prepared by an outside consulting firm)
  • Travel to project sites and present site evaluation/assessment reports
  • Participate in project meetings and conference calls
  • Ensure final documentation is accurate and complete for all project work
  • Demonstrate creative skills to solve complex site arrangement problems 
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Engineer II:  BS Degree in ABET accredited Civil Engineering discipline or similar, plus 3 or more years of engineering experience.

Engineering Technical Specialist II:  BS Degree in Civil Engineering or similar technical related discipline (i.e. Civil Engineering Technology or other similar disciplines) plus 3 or more years of engineering experience OR if Associate's Degree plus 5 or more years engineering experience OR High School Diploma plus at least seven years of related engineering experience. 

 

For both levels: 

  • Minimum 3 years of design and engineering experience in land development.  PV background a plus.
  • Strong Hydrology, Hydraulics, Grading and Erosion Control experience.
  • Min 3 years design/drafting experience for land development, Civil 3D grading experience required.
  • Site feasibility evaluations and assessments, and constructability evaluation
  • Conditional Use Zoning Plans.
  • Familiarity with the site development process and permitting requirements. 
  • Individual proficient in Hydrology, Storm water Management Software preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite, & AutoCAD Civil3D 2021.
  • Experience with Sketchup Pro and Lumion preferred. 
  • Experience in electronic processing and filing of drawings, specifications, budgets, reports, project schedules and other documents.  
  • Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined above are encouraged to apply.
     

Education Requirements

Engineer II: To be eligible for Engineer II title, the successful candidate must meet one of the Engineering requirements provided below.  Highly prefer engineering degree (ABET) in Civil Engineering.
 

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: 
For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met: Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a postgraduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license. 
 

Engineering Technical Specialist II: Preferred Bachelor Degree (or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education).  Highly prefer degree in Civil Engineering (non-ABET) or related field.  

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Depending on functional responsibilities and location of position must review ANS 3.1 12/79, ANSI N18.1-1971 or ANSI/ANS 3.1-1993 and DOM-QA-1 as appropriate.
