Database Analyst/Senior Database Analyst - Richmond VA or Columbia, SC

Job Summary

Working fairly independently, designs, implements, and maintains complex databases, access methods, access time, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protections, security, documentation, and statistical methods. Monitors overall standards and procedures. Integrates systems through database design. Works with an individual business unit on multi-project assignments. Guides and advises less experienced Database Analysts. Is monitored on projects' progress and results. Errors may cause delay, expense, and disruption.

Specific focus areas include:

  • Support multiple  SQL Server  databases in an on premise datacenter.
  • Responsible for software installation, database creation, support and administration of MSSQL databases
  • Work in collaboration with multiple business units and provides resolution for complex problems across project teams.
  • Evaluate and research new database features and technologies.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation supporting a large enterprise database environment.
  • Monitor and optimize performance issues at the application and database level.
  • Plan, design, implement, enhance and maintain complex databases, access methods, database security and audit & regulatory requirements
  • Must be able to work and perform Database Administration tasks independently as well as part of the team
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Capable of a high level of accuracy and attention to detail

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Database Analyst  - 5+ years’ experience as a SQL Server DBA,

Senior Database Analyst -7+ years’ experience as a SQL Server DBA,

  • Demonstrated understanding of Dominion Energy's internal processes and tools, with the ability to carry out all aspects of the job of an Intermediate to senior database analyst.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft SQL Server database versions starting with SQL Server 2008, and experience with large database systems
  • Enterprise level SQL Server database administration experience with SQL Server on VMWare, including but not limited to data migration, data replication, database cloning, user administration, and database backup and recovery
  • Solid understanding of SQL Server internal architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with Database installation, upgrades, and migrations
  • Experience in managing and maintaining multiple production database environments.
  • Hands on experience with SQL Server Always On & Windows Clusters
  • Strong performance tuning and troubleshooting skills.
  • Hands on experience with the following SQL Server  technologies SQL Server Reporting Services, TDE  and SQL Server Analysis Services

Education Requirements

Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelor , Other Education: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Math or Business or technical equivalent is desired with experience in the design, administration, programming and support of RDBMS/MDDBMS (e.g., Oracle, Sybase, Informix, DB2, proprietary RDBMS's) in one or more computing environments (e.g., UNIX, MVS, NT, OS/2, Web).
